Old Guard Vs. New Guard

They aren’t much alike.

I’m really glad we didn’t elect McCain President, and I’m hoping we can elect Rand Paul in the future.

“Gun Death” Stabbing

Remember guns cause murder:

Authorities have arrested a Vermont man in the murder of a doctor at a New Hampshire hotel Monday night, MyFoxBoston.com reports.

Rodney Hill, 37, of West Danville, Vt., was arrested outside of the Hampton Inn hotel in connection with the stabbing death of Dr. Catherine Houghton.

Houghton, 70, was stabbed multiple times in the neck and torso. She was taken to Littleton Regional Hospital where she was pronounced dead, according to MyFoxBoston.com.

Remember, its the person, not the tool!

Images of the Antis

So last night I hit a proverbial jackpot and found Joan Peterson’s stash of anti-gun propaganda posters. This may be a running theme to post images, and discuss them.

First this one:

Wow, this is a winner! First we have the core, of justifying the 2nd Amendment being about hunting. It obviously isn’t. Second we have claims that AR-15s which are the most popular hunting rifle in America right now aren’t used for hunting. Next we have the fallacy of Ipse dixit, or fallacy by rigorous assertion. AR-15s are used for hunting, the anti-rights people don’t like that it is a common hunting rifle, so they simply emphatically state over and over again that they are NOT hunting rifles.

Last we have the “No True Scotsman” fallacy. Where even if a hunter is using an AR-15 for successful and enjoyable hunting, this has nothing to do with the rifle, but to do with the mental state of the hunter, and obviously if you think an AR is the best rifle for taking game you’re likely “Not in your right mind”!

Also I thought I’d throw in this one:

We of course know that Joan Peterson has likely NEVER set foot in a gun shop, certainly not in the last 3 months. Gun SALE? Sorry, but paying $3,000 for a $900 Rifle, and $50 for a $20 magazine, and not being able to find ammo for even the most common firearms is hardly a sale.

And as Tam has said, they aren’t buying these rifles to simply turn them in.

I think this will be a fun series.

“Gun Death” Pencil

Thankfully non-fatal:

When Olivia Smith fell from a chair, the pencil she was using quickly became a dangerous weapon.

The pencil went through her eye cavity and lodged itself in her brain, the New Hampshire Union Leader reported.

The pencil pierced through both of Olivia’s brain hemispheres, and she had to be flown to Boston Children’s Hospital via helicopter. More than 50 doctors worked on her case, and they all agreed the trajectory of the pencil ‘narrowly’ missed the parts of her brain that could have led to death or permanent damage.

Can you think of people doing this sort of damage happening with a computer keyboard or a touchscreen? Really we’re better than this, we live in a digital age where manual writing implments are no longer needed, and frankly should be banned!

IF IT SAVES JUST ONE LIFE!!

University of Colorado Make an Obesity-Resistant Mouse

Wow this is a neat story!

The research team created a strain of mice without the Plin2 gene which produces a protein that regulates fat storage and metabolism. They immediately found that the mice were resistant to obesity.

Usually, mice fed a high fat diet will eat voraciously, yet these showed an unusual restraint. Not only did they eat less, they were more active.

Their fat cells were also 20 percent smaller than typical mice and did not show the kind of inflammation usually associated with obesity, the study said. Obesity-associated fatty liver disease, common in obese humans and rodents, was absent in the mice without the Plin2 gene.

Neat! We feed mice in our lab high fat diet (its essentially Crisco) and they get VERY fat, have fatty livers, and generally are greasy and gross. Interesting that the mice are not only feeding less, but are more active.

GROSS!!!

Oh My GOD Cops have a rough job sometimes:

Home of the Hercules. That’s what the Dairy Lou is known for. But about 3 a.m Monday, police in Oklahoma made an unusual find in the parking lot.

Two women kicked back in a car, one had a warrant for her arrest. And a drug dog let officers know the other woman needed to be searched.

Police took Jennifer Delancy and Christie Dawn Harris into custody.

“On the way there one of them tells the officer she has another hypodermic needle in her shoe, they remove that. The other arrestee says she needed to use the restroom. She repeats it,” said Chris Ross, Pontotoc County DA.

And officers soon find out why she had to go so badly. During book in, a female officer noticed something bizarre during the search.

“The officer observed the handle of a revolver sticking out from inside her body,” Ross said.

Court records say it was this “wooden and metal item sticking out from Harris’ vagina area.”

“It was a five shot. It was loaded and as she turned around she saw more plastic baggies, larger plastic baggies wedged in the crack of her buttocks,” Ross said.

Those baggies contained meth. They were removed along with the gun.

YUCK! Not only the fact that this woman had a NAA Derringer inside her lady-bits….but the type of lady bits that one sticks a Derringer in is NOT the one you want to be in the same zip code with!

TSA Still Amazing!

God what a bunch of retards!

Starting April 25, passengers going through U.S. airports can bring on board Swiss Army-type knives — specifically, ones with blades no longer than 2.36 inches.

This marks the first time such knives have been allowed on board since security was heavily increased in the aftermath of the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks.

2.36″? Who the hell came up with that number?

Also it needs to be “Swiss Army-type” what does that mean? Your knife is perfectly safe if there’s a bottle opener, a nail file, and an imitation ivory toothpick? But if you have a small liner lock that’s no better than a Ka-Bar trench knife????

Speaking of Ka-Bar, does my trusty TDI Ka-Bar not make the cut?

Good job Losers! Disband the TSA yesterday!

**UPDATE** harp1034 pointed me to this site which gives a lot more details about where this all came from.

Pistole said that the allowable knives will be limited to “retractable blades shorter than 6 centimeters (2.4 inches) and narrower than 1/2 inch at the widest point.” From the slide show it is clear that by “retractable” he meant “folding.” Still prohibited would be “knives with locking blades or molded handles,” Pistole said. Fixed blade knives are also prohibited.

Keychain sized knives like the Victorinox “Classic” Swiss Army Knife or Leatherman “Squirt” or “Style” multi-tools are allowed. Also allowed would be the 84mm SAKs, such as the Victorinox Tinker that is illustrated in the slide show or the Cadet. Those SAKs have a 2.3-inch blade, just under the limit. There is bound to be some confusion and some very disappointed and perhaps upset travelers at the airports due to the fact that except for the blade being 5-7mm too long (Wenger or Victorinox, respectively), the most common 91 mm SAKs look virtually identical to the smaller frame SAK that is allowed. Whatever knife you are carrying through the airport, be sure to measure the blade length from the handle to the tip (not just the sharp edge).

Victorinox and Leatherman have lobbied the TSA for many years for this exemption and it appears they final succeeded. Congratulations!

The term “molded grip” is not an industry standard descriptive term and has apparently been invented by the TSA. It would appear to include any handle that is at all ergonomic and exclude anything but a slab-sided SAK or multi-tool. One wonders if the Wenger Evo or Evo-Grip Swiss Army Knife handles would be allowed or prohibited? (As an aside, Victorinox, who bought Wenger after the 9/11 knife prohibitions decimated sales, announced recently that they were merging the Wenger lines into Victorinox and Wenger would no longer exist as a separate company) Beyond that, at least one of the knives illustrated as having a “molded grip” clearly has an ergonomic metal handle, which is not molded plastic. We’re guessing that there will be further clarifications as travelers lose knives to the TSA.

IIn the end, the final decision rests with TSA on whether to allow any item through security checkpoints. As many travelers have found out to their chagrin and disappointment, TSA can be less than consistent at times. Your safest bet is going to be to stick to the basics.

Razor blades and box cutters are still banned. Citing the 9/11 terrorists that used box cutters to kill flight attendants on the aircraft they hijacked, “there is just too much emotion involved with those,” Pistole said.

Pistole said allowing these knives onboard would align the U.S. with ICAO and European standards and allow screeners to focus on the highest priority threat, non-metallic explosive devices. Since we have reports of passengers being allowed onboard in Europe with locking blade folders, we’re still not clear how “aligned” this ends up being.

While hardly entirely rational in nature, it is a step in the right direction and one virtually all knife carriers will celebrate.

TSA PDF on allowed blades can be found here.

Overall I agree its a step in the right direction. Still, let’s face it, the Terrorists got control of the airplane from ambushing somebody and taking advantage of the shock this caused. Meanwhile the law essentially bans any knives that would hold any advantage as a defensive weapon against an attacker.

Pro Rape

Amazing Video on so many levels:

First up I love the Fact that the Republican noted it was about FEELING safer, rather than actually being safer, and that the anti-rights people value FEELING more than reality.

Further love the “just surrender to the rapist” mentality, and the fact that it was a WOMAN saying it is even more appalling.

**UPDATE** The video has been pulled by the Denver Post, I’ll do what I can to find a legal copy, until then I found this article talking about the video.

Goerge Zimmerman Waives Stand Your Ground Trial

This seems a bit odd to me

In the year since it landed on the international news radar, the Trayvon Martin case has raised a global discussion about Florida’s controversial “Stand Your Ground” law. But in a stunning twist of events Tuesday morning, George Zimmerman’s attorneys waived their client’s right to a scheduled April 22 hearing that was to be held under the law that has sparked so much debate, ABC news reports.

It seems this case has been constantly hindered by prosecution’s slow compliance with discovery for the defense. Still I saw this initial trial as a quick way to get the murder case thrown out and George Zimmerman back to as normal a life as he could expect to have.

Any Insight?
