When we thank veterans for the good they have done in this world. Today is also the day when they claim they were just doing their job.
Sorry guys, my job doesn’t involve me volunteering to go into harms way for freedoms we hold dear. You guys are awesome!
Its REALLY scary that these are so common!
Steven Gleason said he still doesn’t know what provoked the attack that killed his younger brother in a St. Cloud alley, even after sitting Tuesday in a Stearns County courtroom where a teenager was formally accused of killing Colton Gleason, 20.
A juvenile petition filed in Stearns County District Court alleges that 17-year-old Jesse J. Smithers punched Colton Gleason of Greenfield on Thursday, causing him to hit his head on the ground.
Smithers is accused of second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter and first-degree assault.
Smithers remains jailed while the county attorney’s office seeks to have him certified to be prosecuted as an adult.
Now these attacks are so deadly because they are completely random. Somebody attempts to punch out an unaware stranger it can VERY easily turn deadly, as the victim has no time to react or defend themselves.
Still I must think about the deadly force angle. A person was MURDERED with a single punch. The person who threw the punch shows motive, opportunity, and ill-will. SHOOT THE BASTARD! Not only can you not trust these monsters while they’re still standing, this is most likely a gang initiation, and when a few of the plebes get sent to the morgue maybe they will stick to killing each other rather than “civilians”.
Be safe out there!

Just got back from the theater where I saw the latest Bond film.
As you might know, I’m a serious Bond junkie. I’ll make this review spoiler-free and just talk about the style points on this installment.
First up, this is a big recommend. Now I’ll start by saying the Daniel Craig Casino Royal is my #1 favorite Bond film. Its gritty, dark, and Bond is not a suave “Gentleman Spy” as in the previous films, but the Brutal and Brutish assassin who depends more on his wile and strength vs. Charm and gadgets embraced by Hollywood. I think this Bond is more true to Flemming than anything else. I will also say the following film Quantum of Solace was the WORST Bond film ever made, even eclipsing The World is Not Enough in its horribleness.
Skyfall is not the best, but its damn good and worth your time.
So for style points. Again Bond is brutal and gritty, getting injured in his battles, getting dirty and disevaled, and showing that he is indeed a human. Tough, and smart, but still human. Love it.
Also the main theme is right up there with many of the classics:
Also Awesome.
Javier Bardem is one of the better Bond Villains. He’s larger-than-life, without being comical like some Bond villains managed to be.
I wasn’t a huge fan that a Bond film set in a modern setting would still have him dragging along the Walther PPK, sorry that was the covert/concealed carry gun of my Father’s generation. Today’s Bond would be carrying a double-stack gun, especially after all the firefights he gets his ass in. Also the hammer on the Walther was often back when it should be down, only gunnies will be annoyed by that, but I’m a gunnie, and that annoyed me!
Product placement was a bit over the top in this one. OK I can see the Jaguar, Audi, and Aston Martin cars, and the McCallen Scotch, but Volkswagon and Heineken Beer? Distracting!
Now there were a lot of cool looks at human issues like mortality, and Bond spend much of the first act drunk, disheveled, unshaven, and popping pills. Still you can portray 007 as an alcoholic and a pill junkie, but his iconic chain-smoking from the early films and books are too politically incorrect? Fuck you PC Police!
Yeah it was a good one! Go see it!
Despite assumptions to the contrary, a basement is no place for a few thousands rats and mice. After learning that as many as 10,000 rodents perished in the basement of a research center run by NYU Langone Medical Center during Hurricane Sandy earlier this week, the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is asking the US National Institutes of Health to investigate the hospital for failing to ensure the safety of the furry little creatures.
The reason the drowning of these rodents made headlines, by the way, is because they were being used for research for studying heart disease, cancer, autism and schizophrenia, among other ailments. And they were reportedly carefully bred, which made them quite valuable. But the NYU hospital, which is located on the east side of midtown Manhattan, thought its basement could withstand surges 20 percent higher than what occurred historically
And PETA believes NYU was negligent. βIt appears that even though it had ample notice, NYU may not have had or executed an adequate disaster preparedness plan for animals in its laboratories, as required by federal animal welfare policy,β the group wrote in a letter yesterday to Patricia Brown, who heads the NIH Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare. And PETA believes many of the rodents were used in research funded by the NIH.
This probe won’t go anywhere, as we all know the hospital did all in its power to prevent this disaster, and even if you want to play devil’s advocate and claim the researchers didn’t care at all (which is bullshit), this disaster set back the research, and funding Months, if not years, and probably will cost a lot of money, even with insurance.
Still the big point is “why were the animals in the basement?” Easy, so they were out of sight, and therefore out of the cross-hairs by militant animal rights advocates like Peta, ELF, and ALF. I’ve worked in several animal husbandry labs, and in my career interviewed with even more. They’re all behind locked doors, they’re all hidden from public view, and they do all they can to keep things a secret. Also most of them have disclaimers you have to sign to make sure you have never worked for those groups because they’ve gone so far as to plant moles in facilities.
Sorry Anti-Science extremists, but the blood of those animals are on your hands!

I’m listening to the George Takei interview on Penn’s Sunday School.
Takei talks about how American Democracy whole-heatedly supported the internment of Japanese US Citizens during World War II, and the horrible racism and injustice that surrounded that dark page of history.
All I could think about were the disgusting statists in the anti-freedom movement in their claims that this not only could never happen again…but probably that it never happened in the first place.
Thanks I’ll keep my guns, because I suspect these beasts dream of us disarmed and living in camps.
Those who use the metric of “Gun Death” seem to imply that guns can only really be used for murder. Violent people have a little more imagination:
A Minneapolis man who threatened his wife with an ax and a lit blowtorch is being charged with terroristic threats, according to a release from the Minneapolis Police Department Tuesday, Sept. 25.
On Sept. 17, Richard Scott Armstrong, 40, waited for his wife — who that day began divorce proceedings — on the porch of a house on 30th Avenue South in Minneapolis with an ax. When his wife arrived, he said he wanted to “talk,” police said.
Now there is no “Death” here, but I think we all know that blowtorches and axes are no joke when used for violence. We ban guns like those who use “Gun Death” wish, the good people will be defenseless, but the violent monsters (who the “Gun Death” blood dancers don’t really concern themselves with…really they only care about gun owners WHO HAVE COMMITTED NO CRIMES) will come up with ways to kill.
Nice little utopia they dream of, huh?

Now a while back Tam had a little issue with her nose. At Blogorado she had a bandage on her nose. I’d been thinking about her ever since I’d heard about the concerns, I wanted to mention it, but frankly we were all having a grand time, and I didn’t want to bring up something so grim and kill the mood.
Well she got the results back and it was indeed BCC. FYI BCC was the primary cancer research I was working on in my cancer research run. Its not the “Big Casio” and some might say, but its no joke either.
Matt G, who’s known Tam longer than I have points out she does indeed have a tip jar on her blog! Any little bit will help. Hell if you read her everyday like I do, sling her what you’d pay for a year of your local daily paper (Tho Tam probably has more readers than most papers), and add a zero if you want to show off.
Also via Jay I heard that Rimfire Design is raffling off some awesome custom grips for Tam Donations, also Zercool is raffling off a Dragon Leatherworks Talon. I’m hearing about another pending raffle, but its not ready for prime time yet, so stay tuned for more details on that.
Seriously, we all read her, we all love her, and now there’s prizes. No damn excuses!
Best Wishes, Tam, we do indeed love you!
**Update** Dennis is raffling off a Dragon Leatherworks Viper I got a good close look at Jay’s and it is REALLY impressive work!
Also for those of you wanting to give something other than cash, Erin is sending a package to Tam. Contact her to join in!
**UPDATE 2X** McThag has entered a lower into the fray!
Sorry, overslept and now I am in the bowels of the mouse-mines with a full day ahead of me.
Bloggity until I get home!
SCIENCE it ain’t for sissies! π
