Intellectual Elite

I just found this article being pushed by the antis of a psychiatry professor speaking out against campus carry. Frankly I think she should be embarrassed.

People who commit violent acts tend to fall into at least one of several categories. Young adults are more prone to violence, as are people of lower social class, IQ and education level. Individuals exhibiting violent behavior are 10 times more likely to be male. Mental illness, particularly paranoid delusions, is a major factor. But a history of violence is the best predictor of future violence.

Unfortunately, given the people who populate college campuses, most of those risk factors are present in enough people that the criteria aren’t much help for college officials trying to determine whether students or employees might become the next college shooter.

Is she saying that colleges SELECT for mental ill, mentally challenged, and violent people? Or is she saying that there is a certain percentage of violent, dangerous people in ALL WALKS OF LIFE?

If A) that’s DAMN embarrassing. If B) Well, I agree…and that’s why I carry a gun! You can’t catch them all, and the Pre-Crime division in the film and book Minority Report is a work of fiction (and even then the power was abused by the bureaucrats in charge of it), so its best just to have a plan to DEAL with such a problem in the unlikely event it happens to you. I avoid car accidents with all diligence, but I wear my safety belt, and have my airbags engaged just in case all I do isn’t enough.

“We have more shootings in areas where we have more schools,” she said. “I would hypothesize that if we allow more guns on college campuses, we are going to have more trouble, and I think that just goes without saying.”

Does it? Or is more logical that these campus shooters tend to be mentally ill, socially backwards, and emotionally impotent people who choose large bodies of disarmed people for their shooting sprees.

In the body of this article she takes some pretty strong ethical jumps comparing the various active shooters as if they are all equal. I will not that besides Charles Whitman, none of the active shooters were very well-armed, nor did they use any exceptional tactics, and as soon as an armed individual intervened they were quickly pacified…often by their own hand.

And you think by introducing more vetted people with guns is a BAD thing? I think that if you’d like to pursue higher education at Case Western Reserve University, you might want to look at a school that hires functional humans as professors.

This is typical junk-science, the professor starts with her conclusion and cherry picks the facts, data, and reality to support that conclusion, even if it was false from the start!

“Gun Death” Seashells

Does she know about the three seashells?

A Port Saint Lucie woman allegedly attacked a man with a sea shell after biting his ear during a domestic dispute, the Port Saint Lucie Police Department said….The 41-year-old victim told police he and Wehr had gone out for drinks because Wehr had an upcoming court date on a battery charge and was stressed, an incident report said. When they returned home, Wehr was intoxicated and began an argument with the man, police said.

According to the incident report, Wehr bit the man on his right ear, grabbed a sea shell with a pointed tip and stabbed the victim four times in the shoulder.

In the future this is going to be a problem!

They Must Control The Message

A Talk Show Invites Ladd Everett to talk about his side on Stand Your Ground. What do you think he says?

“No Thank You!” Because while Ladd is a paid lobbyist on this very issue, he wouldn’t DARE go up against even an amateur who’s willing to tell the truth and ask tough questions.

Keep your eyes here for the show.

**UPDATE** Looks like the talk show nailed it in a response:

@CSGV I guess that’s a firm no. Unfortunate. I get it though. It’s easier to talk about ‪#florida‬ when you don’t have to talk to floridians

They know they can’t convince people on the other side to change their minds…so best not to talk to them at all!

Great Talk from Mas Ayoob

If you carry a firearm, or keep one in the home WATCH THIS VIDEO!

On a Discussion topic: Have you EVER heard such a concise, logical, and rational argument or talk ever given by somebody arguing for the removal of gun rights? There’s a reason for this!

Bump in the Night

Breda’s post brings up a recent story.

I was heading home from Maine from my recent surgery course, and my cell phone rings. It was Mrs. Weer’d asking if I was home.

“Nope I’m still on the highway, I’ll be home soon!”

She told me she’d heard a noise downstairs. I told her it WASN’T me, and she should be loading up the gun.

She did, while I was still on the phone, and once armed stuck her nose into the hall and noted that she didn’t hear anything more.

I told her she might want to call the non-emergency police line and just have a cruiser give a fly-by and look for anything awry. She said she didn’t feel that was necessary, and instead shut the door to the room and talked with me until I got home.

I got home shortly thereafter and told her I’d do a quick sweep of the perimeter, then I’d come in can call up to her.

Long-story short, there were some items knocked over on our front porch, probably by drunk, or rambunctious kids just being wild. No harm, no foul…but VERY scary for both of us.

Being home alone does get creepy. I live in an old house that creaks and makes noises. When there are others in the house you assume its just somebody moving, when you’re alone you don’t know WHAT it is.

Of course no need to shoot anybody, and not even a need to get the cops involved (and wait for them to find time to swing by) she had a gun, if things got ugly, she had the power to make them ugly back.

Its my generally feeling that horrible fear ONLY comes to those who are out of options, and are at the mercy of fate or luck.

Be safe out there!

“Gun Death” Car and Knife

Hey but no guns here:

A woman allegedly stabbed by her best friend during an argument while sitting behind the wheel of a car tried to drive away and struck her attacker’s 2-year-old daughter, authorities said Friday. The woman and the girl both died.

The toddler’s mother, Kimberly Black, 29, of Cleveland, was found naked several blocks away and was arrested.

The death of Sharice Swain, 29, of Cleveland, was being investigated as a homicide. Police identified the other victim as Kimshia Ruffin. Her 1-year-old sibling, Taraji Ruffin, also was struck, but the injuries apparently were not life-threatening.

So much injury and death…but no guns. Should we ignore it?
