First let me say I’m all about training. Take a class, and log some range time, it will only benefit you. But when things go to mandatory training I think back to my mandatory Foreign Language training in Middle School. I took two years of French. I also took four years of Latin, as well as a simeseter of Japanese. The Latin is the only thing I got much use out of, and that’s coming from somebody who today can’t speak, write or translate Latin. I IS very useful in my Science career as many of the terms used are derived from Latin or Greek. I cannot speak or understand French. I cannot Speak or understand Japanese.
Why not? Well because I did nothing with them after I finished the classes. Same goes for ANYTHING else.
Neat little video on so many levels, but the ending point is that even with mandatory training laws in Canada somebody still managed to spend some time at the range shooting .308 Win ammo in a .30-06 rifle. Very lucky they didn’t blow up their gun, I’m sure this wasn’t great for the gun’s chamber or for the lands of the refiling.
In the end there is NO mandatory training that will make anybody safer if given a long enough time-line, and zero involvement beyond the mandated acts.
In this case mandatory firearms training is just a tax of time and money for a natural and constitutional right. Sorry!
A certain Joyce Shill has a collection of videos of Paul Helmke talking to a crowd of like-minded idiots about gun control. I may do a series on these because they’re really awesome little clips showing exactly how dishonest the anti-freedom crowd is.
Notice his little shell game there? He puts in a false dichotomy. In refuting “More Guns = Less Crime” he adds his little metric “Gun Death = Crime”. Also Paul is the head of a gun control group. There are two possible equations that would refute “More Guns = Less Crime” one would be “Guns are 100% independent variables for crime”, which actually can be said to be an arguable statement if you look at simply gun laws and crime., looks like total bullshit if you factor in total gun ownership. Still saying guns are irrelevant to crime numbers means gun control is just as irrelevant. But for Paul to effectively refute this point he would need to show that “More Guns = MORE crime”, you see him attempt that?
We all know why!
Live Crab Vending Machine? I don’t really get it, as I never buy anything from vending machines, but if it works that’s pretty cool. If it doesn’t who do you bitch to if you get a dead crab from a machine?
Certainly less creepy than the Japanese machines that sell britches and smut, but a bit cooler than the live-bait machines that I have actually used.

First thing we should notice is this is likely your standard issue gang-banger. Likely a high school dropout, and probably somebody with some heavy black-market ties, but he’s all cleaned up and appears to be HEAVILY coached in what he’s saying. Also for such a short video there are a ton of editor’s cuts, it could be to thin down a long story, it could be breaks to re-coach the boy, or get him to stick with the script. I doubt he’s familiar with many of the words he’s saying, and describing a shooting as “Shots was fired”, is a common legal euphemism allowing the person to tell an account without lying OR admitting to discharging a weapon.
But all that bullshit aside let’s look at his little sob story, and discuss how he could have avoided ending up in prison.
Step 1, don’t be involved in Gangs. Some people use the metric of “Gun Death” as if it is relevant, but never actually break down demographics and the situations of the majority of people who become “Gun Death” statistics. Its not John Q. Salary-Man who shoots his kid who’s using the bathroom in the middle of the night because he mistakes him for an intruder. Its not Little-Tommy Booger-eater who finds Daddy’s pistol while looking for Christmas presents and decides that playing with a gun is a smart idea and ends up killing himself or others. Its also not psychos like Sung Cho, or Jared Laughner, they get a lot of media play, but really they’re such a statistical anomaly while they create a lot of bodies, the deaths aren’t statistically relevant.
Nope the “Gun Deaths” in America are from Suicides (more than half, and we’ve talked about this before) and from Drug dealers and street soldiers engaged in criminal acts. If you aren’t part of this demographic you’re already in good shape to not murder anybody, gun, knife, pipe, unimportant.
Step 2: Don’t hang out with these criminals. He was with a “Mutual Friend that everybody knows” hanging out and smoking marijuana, and several of these people were illegally carrying guns. I think we all know this is distilled trouble on the hoof.
Step 3: Don’t illegally carry guns around, most certainly if you’re impaired by drugs and alcohol. You’re one traffic stop away from prison right there!
Step 4: Don’t interact with gangs on the streets. Those “Guys none of us got along with”, that’s coached code speak for “Rival Gang”, and those words you exchanged were likely you picking a fight like the good tribalist thug you are.
Step 5: If you see trouble brewing but aren’t in immediate danger GET AWAY! Tough-Guy Jiyaad shot a guy because he was running away with an illegally owned, carried and used gun, all while under the influence of an illegal drug.
This was all mocked-up as some sort of sob story somehow claiming that somehow everybody is susceptible to such human fallibility. BULLSHIT!
It is EASY to avoid such troubles, and Jiyaad made no such efforts. I’m glad he’s in prison, and I’m afraid he won’t be in prison forever, because do you think he’ll really make different choices if he’s let out?

Monster Trucks are MONSTERS, and obviously should be banned.
A 23-year-old woman died after she was run over by two monster truck tires in the parking lot of a Northwest Dallas strip club early Thursday morning….”Detectives are still trying to determine the legality of the vehicle to operate in a public street,”…He was arrested on suspicion of intoxication manslaughter.
OK maybe the truck isn’t legal…and drunk driving also isn’t legal…not to mention running somebody over.
Its almost as if some people will just flagrantly violate the law….but that’s ONLY because the above laws are NOT gun laws which people cannot disobey!

I’ve been meaning to talk about trains, as its not only an important topic to me, but also to lots of other people. The President has been talking a lot about trains and high-speed rails, but its Robb’s and Sean’s recent posts about the NC high-speed rail scheme is what’s getting me going.
Now I live near a commuter rail station, and I did that on purpose. The big reason for this is my wife has epilepsy and cannot drive, so public transportation nearby gives her a LOT of independence, also since the train goes into Boston, and Boston is HELLL to drive in, its very convenient for that.
So I like the train, and I’m glad to have it. That being said, trains are bullshit 18th Century technology, and any attempts to run them in modern times is a total financial disaster.
First trains are totally inconvenient. Unless both your starting point and your destination are near train stations overall you’re going to take a LOT longer to get from point-A to point-B than if you just drive your car. My old job location was near the subway, so I used to take the train to work, still it took 45 mins to drive to work, and it took an hour and a half to take the train. While it was amusing to play with my phone and read magazines, while not worrying about traffic, it really wasn’t worth that extra time.
Second even if your start and destination are on a rail line you had better want to go when the rest of everybody else wants to go. I remember one day I woke up feeling lame. I decided to board the train in hope that starting my day and drinking a ton of tea would clear me up. Nope I was getting sick, so I decided to make it a half-day. It took me over 3 hours to get home because the trains don’t run often in the middle of the day. That really sucked.
And of course that would be a lot easier if you knew when the trains would actually show up. You really can’t know, tho…trains will rarely run on time, meaning you’ll miss trains, or wait for trains constantly.
People talk about the efficiency of trains. They’re totally right, trains are far more efficient than cars…if the train is completely full. There are a few rush-hour trains that are packed, but most trains are empty. Also the financial independence of the rail line often depends on the trains being packed…they won’t be.
So while there are a few occasions when I enjoy taking the train, overall its a colossal bad idea, and a REALLY expensive bad idea.
Boston Station 6.80am WRKO used to be a much greater station. One of a long line of horrible talk-show hosts was on Reese Hopkins who left WRKO after being charged with rape. I have no idea if he did it, and I won’t speculate on that, but THIS is really gross.
Hopkins, who has insisted he’s innocent, has been behind bars awaiting trial since his October 2008 arrest.
He spent all that time in jail awaiting a trial? That is SERIOUS bad justice!
And that’s all I have to say about that.
