Virginia Tech in the News

Les sends me two stories related to the Virginia Tech shooting. First a Negligence lawsuit.

A judge on Wednesday upheld a jury’s negligence finding against the state in the 2007 Virginia Tech massacre but sharply reduced damages to two families who said their daughters could have survived if the university alerted the campus earlier.

Franklin County Circuit Judge William Alexander II set the jury’s award at $100,000 for each family, the highest amount allowed under a cap on damages against the state. A jury had initially awarded $4 million to each family after an eight-day trial of the lawsuit in March.

Interesting given this little tid-bit.

The state said while it was pleased the damages were reduced, it continued to argue that Virginia Tech leaders had no “duty” to warn the campus of the first two shootings, among other points of their appeal.

Cops don’t HAVE to protect you. Still the campus had recently ruled that there was no need for students and faculty with carry permits to be allowed on campus…for all the good it did on that day. Maybe this hit to the wallet will get them to give campus carry a little more reasonable thought.

Then this story:

An online weapons dealer who supplied three mass killers has quietly closed up shop amid numerous customer complaints…Police say Thompson closed the business at the end of May after scores of customers complained they ordered equipment and received nothing. The Wisconsin Better Business Bureau says it has received nearly 200 complaints from customers in 44 states since January. Detectives have opened an investigation.

Well that just sucks. This guy has been SCREWED by the anti-rights cult, and the MSM (But I repeat myself) as he followed all the laws, and backgrounds were conducted on all the guns, and as for the equipment…who cares?

But he’s apparently pulling this crap, and it sounds like not only was he failing to deliver product, but he may have been pocketing the cash.

Ahem. I doubt it. So far, it seems to have only inspired them to try even harder. Unfortunately, the legislature seems rather disinclined to try fixing that.

While the dealer was unquestionably, unjustly demonized by the media and idiots of our country (but I repeat myself), bad business practices are bad business practices, and if he is taking people’s money but not providing the agreed-upon product or services, he can go hang.
