The only thing with any shred of rationality in the NFA is Full-auto guns. I mean a full-auto gun behaves totally different than an semi-auto gun…of course the Non-NFA bumpfire stocks further blur these lines too.
Still the bottom line was the NFA initially was going to include handguns, so because of this non-handguns needed to be defined, which leads to the definition of Short Barred Shotguns an Rifles.
Of course in a modern world where you can’t put a 8″ .22 Barrel on your Thompson Center Encore rifle without registering and paying tax to the .gov, but you can go over to your buddy’s house and give him some cash for his Desert Eagle, or S&W .500 magnum that he doesn’t want anymore with no government involvement, it really is just a stupid law, and should be dissolved!
