Big Hat-tip to Robert Farago from The Truth About Guns for digging this clip out.
I’m open about it, I don’t like Robert or his blog, I feel he’s one of the “gun rights” people who is still living in the 1990, but I must give credit where it is due.
Love all the anti-gun mistruths. “Can defeat virtually all body armor”, is “totally uncontrollable” (certainly when shooting with the gun tucked under your arm and the butstock in the air) “High Powered Weapon”, and of course the curiocity of the weapon used. First up its obviously a full-auto AK-47 (I think we all know the laws and value of such a piece) but it appears to have a “Post ban” muzzle cap and the bayonet lug ground off. Can anybody who knows Kalashnikov pattern rifles tell me what the story with this gun is?
An AK-pattern rifle is a medium-powered semi-auto rifle. 7.62×39 is an adequate cartridge but hardly “high-powered”, tho it will defeat any ballistic armor designed to stop handgun rounds and shotgun pellets. Armor rated for rifle rounds should stop bullets from this gun as well as anybody can expect. While not known for their accuracy shooting like this (which appeared to be about 50 feet) one should be able to keep all the rounds in a small grouping shooting semi-auto, and with proper gun handling (ie not like the disaster shown on camera…fyi, if you get caught shooting even a .22 rifle like that at a gun club you’ll likely have your membership revoked) one should easily keep all their rounds on target in full-auto.
Either Andrew Traver knows NOTHING about firearms and ballistics, or (more likely) he knows plenty and cooked up his interview to intentionally mislead the public.
This man should NOT be a member of the BATFE, let alone the head of it. Of course I’m generally with Joe that there shouldn’t be a BATFE at all.
I think it’s not unbelievable that he’s completely ignorant about firearms and ballistics. The ATF isn’t known for its high IQ requirements and they are just tax collectors…
There was a time when they were tax collectors. Now their main job is “Dog Catcher”, but only dogs inside houses who’s doors have recently been kicked in.
Don’t forget the cats.
They call those feline things “assault dogs” very dangerous, they are!
LOL — love the inconsistency of the article — can’t control an AK-47 but earlier they had an agent firing bursts and keeping every one of them center mass at about 15 yards.
Reality is what they make it.
How is it that the guy who is nominated to be the head of ATF actually encourages unsafe behavior with a firearm? Shouldn’t he be encouraging safe gun handling by providing some instruction on how to properly shoot an AK? As it is, a 10 year old child warrior has gotten better firearms instruction from the local warlord than did that reporter from Mr ATF Andrew Traver.
+1 Even if this is out in the wilderness sending rounds over the berm is NEVER a smart move, but he just smiled and watched while she did it, and then handed the gun to the next reporter.
Can you repost? Vid is already gone.
Watching it right now, works fine with me…
