Bad Idea Car

Unclelinks this Gem

A guy attempting to sell a Smart Car while talking about all the things it can’t really do.

As a general rule I can’t see how anybody who drives a Smart isn’t an idiot. Because of all the modern crash safety equipment, it really doesn’t get amazing gas mileage for a car so small. Also some of that mileage is from Premium fuel which adds to the cost of a fill-up.

Frankly I can’t see why somebody wouldn’t just spend half as much, and get a Nissan Versa, or Toyota Yaris, or a Ford Fiesta, or other such micro-car, and get a car with slightly worse gas mileage, but twice the space?

Oh FYI I know a blogger who drives a Smart

Let’s just say he constantly feels the need to tell the world how smart he is….

I’ve got a friend of a friend who got one. I am amazed that someone made car that makes my Corvette seem practical.

They take the same gas and the mileage difference is not that big, the gap narrows in the real world since the 400 and some foot pounds on the Vette are loafing at highway speeds where the Smart ForTwo is outside it’s best torque band.

When I bought my toy, and a Vette is a toy, I would not have believed that someone would envy my car for the massive storage capacity.

Oh, the friend of a friend hates the thing…

And newer vetts don’t get too bad mileage if you avoid 1st gear and keep the tach low.

And they have the added benefit of being able to merge on the highway, pass on hills, and not making you look like a window-licker!

  2. I remember the first time I saw one in Germany a few years before they showed up in the US. All I could think was “crazy Europeans!” Now when I see one all I can think is “stupid Americans!”
