A few of my High School friends ran “Web Logs” back in the early days of 2000. They were mostly open-air dairy pages, probably most similar to what the majority of Livejournal is used for these days. I remember the first time I heard somebody abbreviate it as “Blog” and I felt the same way I did when I heard that “Bill” was short for “William” and “Bob” was short for “Robert”. Never got it, but like anything else, you conform to terminology for the sake of communication.
Fast forward a few years and I’m now living in Massachusetts and I decided I’d been shooting for a good while and decided it was time to buy my own guns. Did some research on the laws in Mass, and I found this dude from Boston who was bitching about getting jerked around on his permit to OWN, and being denied a permit to CARRY.
This was the first political blog I had ever read.
I’ve since had a chance to go shooting with Bruce, drink PBRs, and sing the greatest hits of the Wicked Good Band (Bruce also grew up in the Metro Portland Area), his blogging slacked off a bit because moving to New Hampshire really cut down on his rage levels (can ya blame him).
Well I just read that he’s Hanging it up
At first I was sad. Under Jay’s Definitions, Bruce is my “Blog Father”. But it turns out Bruce will be running for State Representative.

That’s a good enough reason to change gears, and I know Bruce has been wanting to run for a good long time, and I’m glad to see him getting that much closer to his goals!
