Morning Read

Sean put in some hard work looking at the FBI crime reports to debunk Joan Peterson’s constant raving that somehow “Gun Death” has some high incidence in domestic disputes. Many of us have come to the same conclusion before, but Sean takes a nice fresh look and brings along some Graphics. Go over and have a read.

Oh, FYI, I don’t think Joan has responded to Sean’s post, but years ago MikeB302000 went so far as to say that BOTH the FBI and the CDC were working for the NRA to produce numbers that disproved Joyce/Brady Campaign Dogma.

That was probably one of the funniest comments he has ever made…

Honestly, though, I doubt she will actually respond – I cannot say as though I have seen her comment anywhere other than her own weblog, even at other anti-rights weblogs, so it would be something of a first. And then there is that whole problem that Bob S. found of her complete and utter inability to keep up with elementary-level mathematics… things like graphs and percentages and stuff would probably be far too overwhelming for her.

Nope, from her perspective, it is far better just to suck down the pablum being so graciously fed to her by the organizations that are using and abusing her for her all-too-poignant grief, and leave it at that.

And speaking of, here is one of his quotes:

Here’s my idea about statistics. Even FBI stats can be biased, so they must always be taken with a grain of the old salt. About this particular claim, once before we read that it was 1% or less of a large sampling that came from the gun shows.

    […]

That’s why those claims are bogus, because they don’t stand up to common sense.

Obviously, if the FBI does not publish something that meets with Sparky’s idea of “common sense”, the FBI is wrong… he even said as much:

Other examples given had a more conspiratorial flavor, the CIA and FBI of course as well as the site for Dow Chemical.

I personally don’t worry about this too much because I treat everything I read on Wikipedia and the rest of the internet just like I treat any statistics I come across. If it doesn’t mesh with my pre-conceived ideas, out it goes. It’s obviously biased.

Probably the one honest thing we have ever gotten out of him.

  3. I think your link is bad. What you want is

I’m not holding out any hope of a comment. She’s not going to budge on “Knew their killer”=Family Member.
