Now for a Political Point

On this day in 2001, 3,000 Plus people were killed as a result of a terrorist attack on this country. The terrorists used box cutters, airliners, buildings, and jet fuel to accomplish this horrible deed.

If you work for the Brady Campaign, or the Violence Policy center, this day is like any other, as the people were NOT killed by guns. Remember that today! Does it make you angry? It should!

On this day 9 years ago my father, who owned one of the larger gun stores in COnnecticut, was flooded by liberals who had never owned a gun wanting one. To a person they were pissed off that here in CT you could not simply purchase a gun and walk out the door with it. In CT there is a 2 week wait if you do not have a CCW (or a hunting license for a long gun).

Fear was deep in the air as rumors of possible additional strikes whirled to include WMDs. I was helping my dad that night in the store and heard “But I NEED a gun to protect my family- I’m law abiding so why cant I just buy a gun and walk out with it?” To a person every liberal pouring into the store that day was taken aback at what one called “the insane gun laws keeping the law abiding from owning a gun when they want”. My father asked these people where were they when these laws were being enacted?

We had one person who drove up in a decked out Range Rover that wanted an easy $6k in guns and ammo. WHen told he had a 2-week wait his repsonse was how much would be required to waive the waiting period- he told my father to just name a price. The price was “Get the fuck out of my store”. And when told that a CCW could take 3+ months to get it was “How do I get it faster?”

It amazed us all how rabid anti-gunners and tepid sheep all of a sudden were EXTREMELY pro-gun for the few days after 9/11.

Out of curiosity how many of them aborted their purchase when they discovered the law? That’s the very obvious reason for the Massachusetts permit system (You need an FID or an LTC to OWN a gun here, supposed to take a month to get the permit, but 3-4 is not uncommon in unfriendly towns) I’ll often take somebody shooting for the first time, and they decide that a nice plinking gun, or a HD Shotgun might be a good idea to have around….then I tell them all the bullshit hoops that they need to jump through, many of them simply don’t bother and instead just come an visit and toss me some cash for ammo (You can’t buy ammo without a permit either!). Here there ARE no fair-weather gun-owners. There are rabid pro-rights gun-nuts, and people who don’t own a single gun. (With the exception of the old timers who refused to step forward when the permits came about.)

Hopefully at least a few were pissed enough to change their opinions and start telling friends…

A lot of them aborted the purchase with a “well I’ll find another store to sell to me”. We were like good luck on that score. We talked to our competitors a little after 9/11 and they all went through the same scenario. My take is that the sheep went back to their safe little world when it became more apparent that nothing more was going to happen.

I imagine when the next strike comes it will be bad again. I pray to God its not a WMD strike of either a biological or nuclear nature (especially in NYC) as we would be dead in the middle of the evacuation/panicked people route. I’ve told the wife if such a strike happened we need to either GTFO immediately or prepare to defend the house.
