So a power line went down and there was an electrical fire up the street. No idea what caused it as there is only light rain and no wind.
Our lab is dark. We got stuff that needs power on generator (mostly, the hurricane showed us some flaws in our emergency system) but most of the lab equipment is out.
Sure those old science pioneers made do without alternating current, but us in the 21st century are SOL. Hopefully the lights come on soon, I got shit to do!
Yeah, my soils lab doesn’t even have a window; if the power went out I don’t think I’d even be able to find the door!
Thankfully I have “Tiny Flashlight” that can turn on the LED flash on my Droid and make a quite passable flashlight for such emergencies!
There’s an Ap for that!!!
Worked at an engineering firm decades ago. Power went out in the office. After a couple of hours one of the secretaries pulled me aside a bit distraught. She had to go to the bathroom really bad. I handed her a flashlight. “But the power is out! It won’t flush!”
I assured her that the ladies room was running on backup plumbing.
LOL! During the hurricane our power went out for an hour just in time for lunch. All the oven controls were electric, but the range just uses electricity for the ignition. I turned the knob and heard the gas rushing, so I grabbed a match and heated up my soup. The wife was impressed.
Funny how people think various things work.
I had to explain to a sister that there is no “door” in a toilet. That the pipe just does a bend and the water keeps gasses out. (The trap) So there is no “gate” that keeps snakes at bay.
I did more damage than good.
