Great News Spot

So Robb Allen did a News interview and did a damn good job.

I must say, it hasn’t come up in the courts yet, as Heller and McDonald are just cases to KEEP arms…but as we know the right extends to keep AND to BEAR arms.

Now I would say places like Texas and Florida that ban open carry, and places like Wisconsin that ban concealed carry should be looked at in practical senses. When its 120 and humid do you REALLY want to throw on a concealment garment, and wear a holster that presses leather and gun against your sweaty skin? And of course in Wisconsin where its -15 and blowing, open carry is essentially impossible.

And of course just like we’ve all flashed a little butt-crack, or tummy, or maybe even more severe wardrobe malfunctions, accidental non-threatening exposure of a firearm to somebody who carries every day becomes a reality on a long-enough time-line. That’s simply a non-crime and shouldn’t be treated as such.

And as people who open carry let us all know…its no big deal.

    Weerd,

A couple of points I might add to an excellent post. This pertain mostly to Texas

    1. An Unconcealed weapon doesn’t necessarily mean one that has been accidentally exposed.

“Concealed handgun” means a handgun, the presence of which is not openly discernible to the ordinary observation of a reasonable person.

If a person in Texas fails to wear a thick enough or loose enough cover garment, then that person violates the law. Even if no one actually sees the weapon. How ridiculous is that?

    2. The law requiring concealed carry actually can — and I’m sure does – decrease the security of how a firearm is carried for many women. Since many do not wish to change their fashion and choice of clothing — and why should they have to — many women carry in their purse or other places off body. Thus the weapon is more often out of their direct physical control.
Does it make sense to require people to do this?

    3. There are many of us with medical conditions that make concealed carry difficult during the summer. I don’t bring it up often but my asthma is aggravated by the heat — and wearing a cover garment on top of the oppressive heat makes it worse.

    Thanks for letting me vent.

Man, all the more reason to get rid of that foolish, and likely unconstitutional law.

BTW I was sitting around in a jewelry store when my wife was picking out a piece for herself, and they had a female security guard there. Nice lady, but even under the suit coat she was wearing you could see her piece. Dunno if she was wearing a paddle holster or what, but she might as well have been handing out fliers.

I had a .38 in my pocket that looked like I had on two wallets, or maybe a big mess of keys.

What’s the difference, she was watching the store, I was watching my wife, and neither of us meant anybody any harm.

It was Maine, so unless the shop keepers had a personal issue, I could have OC’d too, and the results would have been the same.

The case against OC is like the case against gays. Lots of scary hypotheticals, but zero data.
