“I need to report a first-degree premeditated murder,” VanBlarcom is heard saying on the 911 call. “I’ve killed my mother.”
“How did you do it?” the dispatcher asked.
“With a baseball bat,” VanBlarcom said….
As the 911 operator attempted to get more information about why VanBlarcom wanted to kill his mother, he told her she was still breathing.
“I don’t know what I should do. Is it best to go ahead and finish her off? I mean, she’s suffering. I don’t know what to do. I guess it’s best to go ahead and finish her off, right?” VanBlarcom said.
This guy was severely mentally ill and on some pretty serious anti-psychotic drugs. Still he managed to get a baseball bat which you can buy without a background check, and what is often found in toy stores.
Again, why focus on the gun? The dangerous thing is the violent person doing a violent act. Be it a 9mm Glock, or a Louisville Slugger, in the hands of a peaceful person there is no problem, in the hand of a monster you have danger!
