Gun Porn: To Dream

I have a Century FAL, and I really love it.

Tho its not my ideal configuration. What I REALLY want is this number from DS Arms

That’s the Paratrooper model with an 18″ barrel. Its a little smaller and lighter than my rifle, and it folds up nice and small. The only thing I’d change is the FN-style Magazine release to an L1A1 style which is much fatter.
They had a bunch of FALs there:

My one complaint is that the display models have really been ridden hard and not well cared for. Many had mechanical issues, like one where the bolt release didn’t work. Last year (which was my first time ever handling an FAL) the guns on display had been dura-coated and the magazines wouldn’t seat easily because of the extra thickness.

Still I think the FAL pattern rifle is one of the best battle rifles out there, and DS Arms makes some of the best, tho the competition is not very strong.

Brother Beard, after using M-14s while in the Navy, and having once owned an H+K 91, my Dream Rifle is the FN-FAL. And DSarms makes the best for us Civilians. But check this out: While at the NRA Con, I stopped at the Aimsurplus Display, and guess what they are Distributing? FN-FAL’s made by DSarms for the MSRP of…..$999! It seems that DSarms made up a batch on Imbel Receivers, but they used their Parts and Tooling and Skills to assemble them. They are the Basic Model, but the guy at Aimsurplus said that they’ll take most of the DSarms accessories (appropriate to that Barrel Length, of course).

Now if I can only convince the Wife to sell her car and walk the 30 miles to work….

I always liked FALs myself and was getting one when I happened onto an estate sale/auction that had “some guns” in the mix. The bulk were Fudd guns and various pistols but the gem in the back of the safe was the unfired Mars imported CETME from 1968/69. I’ve a HUGE CETME fan and this was mint- even the 3 mags were still in their oiled paper wrappers. The wood had turned over the years into the gorgeous red/orange color you see on these old CETMEs. Me and another guy were bidding for it and I walked out the door with it for only $2200.
