Hail To The Chief

So a little Thunder head was rolling through So the folks and I sat out on the Porch to watch it come through. Very light rain, thunder, but no visible lightening, so it must have been all cloud-to-cloud. The it looked like it was getting lighter out.

Then the rain, HEAVY rain, and then HAIL!

About the size of marbles to peas. Pretty crazy, and there are tree leaves EVERYWHERE from them being shredded by the iceballs.

No damage, thankfully! Neat to watch!

Some of the choice specimens.

Holy crap! Did you make a drink with the ice?

    • Weerd Beard says:

Nah, woulda had to wash it off with all the lawn bits first, and it really wasn’t that great an ice given that it was rapidly melting at the time.

As I ran in from the rain I abandoned my glass and even under the covered porch there were a few pellets in the bottom because of how the wind was blowing.

I did peg my Dad with a few stones….he retaliated by dumping that pictured handful plus a few more down the back of my shirt. 😀

  2. You got the hail, too?

I was in town on my bike and on my way home, the clouds rolled in, lightning fired up, and I started getting pelted by hail within an absolute downpour. Earlier in the day, I had laughed at a friend who had to ride home through the previous day’s downpour. Karma.

The sunflowers don’t seem too much worse for the wear, at least.

As a non-rider, how much does that suck and how dangerous is it in a serious down pore and hail?

The wife was up the street at her Mother’s house at the time and they were driving over for dinner when the SHTF, and it was pretty hairy for them in a Camery.

      • Bicycle, I should have said in case you are thinking motorcycle, this being bike-week; and I wouldn’t call it safe.

I could barely see and the cars and motorcycles going by weren’t noticing me and moving over as they usually would. The hail sounded kind of neat going CLUNK CLUNKCLUNK against my helmet. One piece did catch me in the back of the neck and it smarted. A few cars got a bit dented from the occasional larger piece.

Luckily for me, the lightning quit about when the hail started.
