Keep Going New Hampshire

Via Doubletrouble I get news that Constitutional Carry has passed the NH House.

The 244-109 vote sends the bill (HB 330) over to the state Senate for its review.

can quote more of the news story, but I’ll just quote the bill:

I. Permits any person to carry a firearm, openly or concealed, loaded or unloaded, on or about their person or upon or in a vehicle, whether or not such person possesses a license, permit, or other authorization to carry a firearm.

II. Removes the requirement that nonresidents obtain a license to possess a firearm while in New Hampshire.

Music to my Ears. The NH Carry permit is essentially a waste of time. For Residents it takes a week to process, you get a crappy paper-permit with your name and address on in (no photo!) and essentially all they do is run a background check, and it costs $10…if they charge you at all. The Non Resident was about the same, only you got a Credit-Card type permit with your name and address…but no picture, for $20. That fee has since been raised by their governor to $100. When that happened I simply stated I would no longer renew my NH non resident permit until the fee was returned to a reasonable amount, as my Florida permit costs me $117 and is good for 7 years opposed to NH’s 5, and is good everywhere my NH permit is good…plus loads more.

Well since any cop can run a background check from his cruiser, or pick up a cellphone and do the same, why do we even need a damn permit (Anywhere, for that matter)? $0 sounds about fair to me.

If you live in New Hampshire you should be calling or mailing the Governor and your local senator urging them to support HB330. If you are a non-resident you might want to email the governor and mention how much more attractive this makes New Hampshire look to you as a vacation spot. I will say if this bill passes I’ll personally do some work to arrange a gunblogger camping trip in the Granite State for as large a group as we can manage, because Camping is as fun as exercising your enumerated rights!

Such a trip would obviously do wonders for campgrounds, as well as surrounding businesses. Knowing what I do about camping tho it might be a year post the passage of this bill.

Sound good to you?

    I have to nitpick, Weerd.

“Well since any cop can run a background check from his cruiser, or pick up a cellphone and do the same”

Fallacious. A cop can run a *warrant* check, and a *protective order* check. What you’re calling a background check is probably a Criminal History, aka “the rap sheet”, and running something like that requires a Good Reason (active investigation, arrest, some employment, etc).

Joe Blow carrying without his permit will probably not be considered a Good Reason when his attorney stands up in front of the judge.

Fair enugh. We talk a good deal about opening NCIS to private sellers, which sofar is ignored by all powers that be. I wonder how hard it would be to open it to Police officers.

Granted I see no reason for a cop to bother somebody carrying concealed or open unless there is some other reason to involve the police.

Now if only my FL permit let me carry in MA …

Again, another reason why we need full-faith and credit for CCW permits (at least until gun permits are declared unconstitutional ) as you are trusted to carry in Florida, and had a valid Mass LTC for years, why should you be expected to pay $100, and apply in person for a one-year non-resident permit?

Speaking of Florida, you See Robb’s get-together planned for next month? I’m gonna see if I can make it!

Fawk yeah. If this passes, I will take the $100 that I saved and donate that Franklin to my favorite NH pol 🙂

  4. Heh. I emailed the governor that I’m MUCH more likely to relocate to NH if this passes. 😀

No, i hadn’t seen it; barring a five-minute iPhone post most mornings, I’ve been completely Intrawebz AWOL. I’ll have to take a look!
