Nanny-State Silly

I just found this video

That’s for the Hyundai Veloster

The car is different from many competitors as it has one door on the driver side and two on the passenger side.

So the commercial implies that people are too stupid to not walk in front of oncoming traffic (it could simply be a design detail that was reasoned by marketing people).

Still for such a situation that can be solved by opening one’s eyes, it implies that if 4 people are riding in the car the person sitting behind the driver will have to shimmy across the seat to enter and leave. This goes for parking lots and driveways. Also if you’re a person who stuff their car full of stuff to go on trips, it’ll be a royal PITA to load and unload the vehicle.

All in the name of “Safety”. Durrrr!

  1. Bubblehead Les says:

Sorry Bro. It’s an old Idea, done by other Car companies. Big Three used it on their Mini Vans and Extended Cab Pickups in the ’90s.

    • Weerd Beard says:

That is a good point. I’ll also point out that everybody has since mirrored the doors. My Supercab Ranger has 4 “French Doors” (because “suicide doors” are unflattering I guess…its what I call them)

They’re trying to get us to like things we won’t like.

  2. North says:

Am I the only person thinking “The Gripping Hand”?

  3. Erin Palette says:

If they were really serious about safety, they’d eliminate the driver’s door, too…

  4. Linoge says:

I have some pretty significant doubts that “people walking into traffic” was the primary reason they got rid of the back door on the driver’s side.

That said, their advertising department deserves to be smacked upside the head for that idiotic commercial. Aside from Death turning into a hood ornament.
