Neat Watch: Psychopathy

Saw this guy on a TV special on Serial Killers. Turns out he has the brain scan of a Psychopath but of course has none of the gross symptoms.

Neat about the Libertarian side of things too. Makes sense that an intensely rational person would be able to figure out that people will find a way to do what they want, and the best solution is NO solution.

Seems that the Authoritarians that I know (both from the right, and from the left) seem to be motivated by fear.

  1. Bob S. says:

A really good book to read is called “The Psychopath Next Door”.

It covers much of the same ground as what this guy said.

One of the facts from the book that stuck with me is – as many as 4% of the population could be psychopaths.

    • Weerd Beard says:

And what I really like is that you can be a “psychopath” (BY this definition) and be a totally nice, safe, and upstanding citizen given that psychopathy seems to also require some other metal illnesses, and severe abuse to really weaponize the monster.

Of course it raises the question to the scientist who’s spent most of his life killing stuff for fun and profit….

  2. Bubblehead Les says:

Of course, this only explains one small class of Killers. There have been many people who were genetically fine, had no abuse, and may have had no family history of murder, yet they still were willing to work in the Nazi Death Camps.

  3. bluesun says:

He’s got a friendly beard, of course he’s not a serial killer!

  4. hmmm… he makes a point about saying “ADULT stem cells” there in the beginning.

    • Weerd Beard says:

The whole Infant steam cell is a dead end IMHO. You’re far better off learning to use the body’s natural healing capabilities rather than attempting to get the body to recognize foreign tissue as “Self”.

And that’s without getting into the whole aborted fetus thing.

      • He’s saying that he has the brain and DNA of a Psychopath, but he’s not one AND he made a point to say “adult stem cells” (presumably ethically harvested).

I’m sure if he didn’t say as such he’d be hearing it from everybody. That’s all I was saying.

        • Weerd Beard says:

When dealing with adult steam cells as medicine they generally use the cells in the patient’s own tissue. For research you can donate your cells no differently than you would any other tissue biopsy.
