Oh PLEASE!

Looks like New Hampshire is looking to dump their permit requirement.

New Hampshire’s resident Permit costs $10, is an un-laminated sheet of paper with no photo, and there is no training requirement. Essentially they file paperwork and run a NICS check and maybe a few other checks. It takes a week from start to finish.

Of course this seems lax by some, but they have no problems with it. Vermont next door is the only state that doesn’t even issue a carry permit. Vermont law has nothing expressly legal or illegal about carrying a gun. The idea is if you can own it, you can carry it no matter what the law says.

Of course New Hampshire got themselves a “Progressive” Governor that thought that as many “Progressives” do that raising fees will raise revenue, and they jacked the $20 non-resident permit up to $100. Sorry, I’ll just carry on my Florida card until this law goes through.

So keep pushing, Granite Staters! You might as well Join the 21st Century, you’re close enough as is!

Just checked the Ohio Attorney General’s Website. Up here in Buckeye Land, we HAVE to take a Shooting School of about 10 Hours Classroom time and 2 hours of Shooting time, all out of one’s own pocket. They tend to run about $120-$150. Then you fill out the Forms, and pay a MINIMUM of $67 dollars for the Background Check, then you’re good to go for 5 years. So, as a Citizen of the Great State of Ohio, I have to shell out $180-$240 dollars to have a Permission Slip to use my RKBA with a Jacket on.

Of course, there are exemptions for Cops, recently Discharged Vets, etc., but I much rather have Nationwide Reciprocity than to keep paying out “Out of State” Fees to use my 2A rights, because it damn sure costs me more in Ohio than if I lived in New Hampshire for the exact same Right!

In NM the average CCW course that is approved by the state costs $175 plus the $100 for the application fee, $20 for finger printing services, $25 for an official copy of your birth certificate. Then wait 30 to 90 days and you now have the privilege to carry concealed. But only in the pistol caliber and/or revolver caliber and smaller that you used to pass your live fire course.

Massachusetts is about the same. Its a class that runs $75-$200 (maybe more, but most people pay about $125-$150) plus a $100 application fee. I know they charged me $15 to get fingerprinted in Medford, but most places have moved to an electronic system which I think they don’t charge for.

How do they judge “Smaller/Larger” is it just bore diameter or do they have a power factor set up? Like if I qualified with my PM45 or my Commander would I be able to carry a .357 Magnum? The .357 is just 9mm, but it produces more muzzle energy than even my +P .45s

Man, this is starting to feel like 1987 all over again. Who thought we would move the momentum from “shall issue or not” to “constitutional carry or not?”

Welcome to the mainstream, boys and girls.

  4. MattW says:

Weerd, the law isnt that specific and it hasnt been litigated yet, but the general rule has been bore size. So if you qualify with a semiauto in .45 acp you can carry 9mm but not a .50. If you also want to qualify with a revolver you have to do so separately during your carry class. So qualifying in semiauto .45 does not allow you to carry a revolver in .38 special

  5. MattW says:

So the answer to your specific question is no. But you could carry a semi auto pistol in. 357 Sig

    • Weerd Beard says:

      That’s so fucking stupid.

But the answer to my question really sounds like if I qualify with a Colt 1911 in .45 ACP (which is a creampuff) to shoot I can carry a Glock 29 which is a hair of a handfull, and more powerful in every way.

Or you just get the fuck out of the way and let the good people learn to shoot, and the bad people got to jail.

      L A M E!
