There have been plenty of politicians with “R”s after their names caught up in such scandals through they years as well.
The difference is that Republican voters hold their candidates to a higher standard than do Democrats.
Wiener will not step down and neither the Democrat party leadership, nor his constituents will demand it of him.
If it had been a Republican, the cries for his resignation would have been as loud, if not louder, from the Republican party and constituency as from the other side. The Republican caught up in such a scandal would have resigned today, rather than just say “gee…I’m really, really sorry I got caught”; and, if they didn’t, wouldn’t have a snowball’s chance in hades of ever being elected dog catcher as a Republican again.
Not only won’t Wiener step down, he’ll be re-elected. Easily.
Liberals, in general, don’t exactly demonstrate high moral values…why would they expect their representatives to exhibit more restraint, maturity and honesty than they are willing to commit to themselves?
I think that’s the more important lesson to be garnered in these types of incidents: Not that Democrat politicians are liars and cheats… but that Democrat voters know it, condone it, elect them anyway…and then fight tooth and nail to grant those corrupt, lying, cheating politicians power and control over every aspect of their (and our) lives.
And then can’t figure out why things are as screwed up as they are.

Good points. Some of what I was saying was simply partisan gloating. But indeed if a Republican was emailing his cock-shots to college kids people would be talking about what a “hypocrite” the Republican candidate was because of the conservative platform.
But its not like Wiener has voted for pro-adultery bills, or made some open marriage speeches, or even announced that his marriage is open and his wife is perfectly fin with him tossing some Wiener into some coeds and porn stars.
And yeah Wiener WILL be re-elected, this little flap is NOTHING compared to any of the shit Barny Frank does, and Barny pulls this shit at least once a year, and has a solid victory EVERY YEAR!

There was an outside factor. Wiener was pushed by the DEMOCRATS. That’s unique for this case. Clinton was not pressured to step down, neither has been Barny Frank despite his near-constant scandals.
Wiener had no interest in stepping down and to date feels he did no wrong, but when Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama are demanding your resignation that’s a hard tide to fight.
