Quote of the Day: Joan Peterson

Its amazing they can say this with a straight face.

Most law enforcement offices carry 10 round magazines.

Uh Huh. Sebastian essentially took the words out of my mouth.

This is completely untrue. Standard issue firearm for the NYPD is the Glock 17, which holds 17 rounds, and the 19, which holds 15. The 17 and 19 are probably the two most common models sold to law enforcement.

PA State Police used to issue the Beretta 92, which holds 18. Now they issue the Glock 37. They Maryland State Police use the 96, which is a larger caliber and holds 12. Minnesota State Police also use the 96.

FBI uses the Glock 22 as its standard side arm. Capacity is 15 to 17 rounds. Other users of the Glock 22? Baltimore PD, Phoenix PD, Alaska State Police.

I can’t think of any police agency that issues a pistol with a 10 round magazine. Can’t seem to find one either.

My Home town issues the cadre of .40 S&W glocks, Boston does Glock 17 or Glock 19. State Police and several large cities like Cambridge go with the Sig P226. Joan Backpedals.

Dear readers,

I erred in saying that L.E. doesn’t carry more than 10 rounds. You all have pointed that out. It is apparent that L.E. does not carry 30 round magazines for the most part. The magazines are anywhere from 12-17 or so as I understand it. I would venture to say that L.E. are more likely to need more rounds than the ordinary gun owner since they are on the streets putting their lives at risk every day and have been outgunned. Thanks for putting me straight about that.

Well except for that whole “Patrol Rifle” business. You know, that little trend where cops keep an AR-15 or an M16 in their patrol car for added stopping power, range and precision. And of course with several 30 round magazines.

But why talk about 30 round magazines? You’ll notice that she again mentions restrictions on THIRTY round magazines, but is saying so in support of a bill that bans ELEVEN rounds and up. This shell game goes up the Brady and Joyce ladder. These are not honest, or reasonable people.

Treat them accordingly.

Hmmm. My brother is a State Trooper. They carry the same gun I have, a P229R in .357SIG. 12 round magazine. Wilmington and New Castle County Police carry the same gun, as does the USSS, FAMS, DHS, and a shitton of other Federal Law enforcement agencies.

And of course Glocks are quite popular among law enforcement. They pretty much ALL carry more than 10 rounds. I’d venture a guess and say that the only cops who don’t carry more than 10 rounds are one’s carrying 1911’s, Sig P220’s, or cops in very small towns who are still carrying revolvers as duty guns.

    • Weerd Beard says:

Seems that all the Armored Car crews all carry Revolvers (mostly Ruger GP100s from my observation ) I did see a cop in Galviston Texas carrying what appeared to be a single- stack 1911, but I also saw several other officers, presumably from the same department all carrying different guns. I assume that department gives wide lattitude on what officers can carry and procure as a duty gun.

I have never seen a Peace Officer of any sort carrying a revolver in my adult life, tho there were a few I saw in my youth.

    I call japete incompetent.

Her model is: facts, I don’t need no facts, private guns are bad! The word private is important
as she is the true believer in the police are always right, never make errors and are there
    when you really need them.

After 6 months or reading I feel strongly that discourse, reason and logic are completely
missing. Further, I call her negligently lazy in anything resembling fact checking, or basic
research. Add to that a apparent deliberate effort to ignore, obscure and insult conflicting
arguments. She is a propaganda shill, her works do poor justice to that concept as well.

The only thing left is to laugh at the fool as she has no concept of stopping the flow of
idiocy despite best efforts by many to educate her.

What’s really scary is Joan won’t question police will a full-on Assault Rifle (ie Select-fire M4, Let alone a semi-auto “Assault Weapon”) with 30 round magazines, as well as a Glock 17 with a brace of 17 round mags (Hollow Points of course), because Police can’t be questioned. Also she constantly points out she’s an expert on the issue of “Gun Death” because her sister was murdered. Only it appears that the police covered for her Jerk Brother-in-law up until his crime was shooting two people…

If anything she should be speaking out against Police and criminals, rather than harboring them to go after us.

      • Pyrotek85 says:

“Also she constantly points out she’s an expert on the issue of “Gun Death” because her sister was murdered.”

Quick! Someone bludgeon me with a hammer so that I can finally master carpentry!

        • Alpheus says:

Pyrotek85, you are confused. If you get bludgeoned with a hammer, you will die–and so you will not master carpentry.

What you need, is to have someone bludgeon someone you love! It is then that you will become a carpentry master.

  3. DeadCenter56 says:

Why do you people even bother to engage japete? She has demonstrated time and time again that she is a pathological liar and a simple a shill for the Brady Bunch. You have absolutely ZERO chance of changing her mind on this subject and it is useless to argue with someone who doesn’t care what the truth is or what the real facts are. If you wish to make a difference in the discussion I would suggest you just concentrate on exposing her lies and calling them for what they are to the people who CAN be swayed by a rational, logical factual declaration. japete is simply a lost cause. The only useful function that I can find is that she gives you practice refuting the lies and distortions of a morally bankrupt, tyranny seeking organization.

    • Weerd Beard says:

That’s exactly my goals. I do not engage her simply because she does not wish to debate or discuss. I very rarely comment on her blog, and when I do its anonymously and in short concise points, as any well framed rebuttal under my screen name will be deleted, and my time wasted.

The exact reason why I constantly quote her is because she is not as cautious as other board members of the Brady Campaign, but she is still an active member, and she serves at the request of Helmke. While she sits on that board and works for groups funded by the Joyce foundation, she represents them and their actions.

To show she is insane, self-centered and a liar shows the route of the entire movement.

Pretty valuable, if you ask me.

      Don’t you agree?

    • Bob S. says:

      Deadcenter56,

I spend the time there so when people search and find the standard gun control phrases on her blog, they also find the refutation of those points.

Instead of having to look for the counter arguments, isn’t it better to present the counter argument on their place?

    • Patrick says:

I agree with Weer’d and Bob but at the same time, they are learning from us as well. What pushes our buttons. What arguments we use, etc. I also think we pad her numbers a lot making her feel more important. If we all just stopped visiting, her and 4 other hits would be all that showed up.

      • Weerd Beard says:

I would agree with the troll blogs, as they’re nothing but anti-social nuts who have carved a niche out by being assholes and contrarian on the internet.

But Joan I see as a treasure. I WANT her bolstered, and I WANT her blog found, and I want sane people to read it and say “What the Fuck is WRONG with this woman???”

  4. Eck! says:

Or simply put, japete is the Palin of the antigunnies.. uncensored.
So if they are rattling around a new idea you heard it there first.

That and it’s fun to use her own quotes against her.

    Eck!
