The best way to word that question:
“Has the number of people in the workforce gone up or down since the chosen one took office?”
MattW is correct, the unemployment rate most often quoted is the U3 number, which only looks at active job seekers. Sadly, when your unemployment insurance runs out, you are no longer considered to be actively looking for a job.
The raw number is less subject to statistical fiddling.
Well, she clearly is trying to cling to the tiny grain of truth that in fact the unemployment rate is currently decreasing (9% in October to 8.6% in November, seasonally adjusted). That being said, a) as MattW and George pointed out its a misleading measure of the truth of the situation, and b) she does a rather poor job of making her case.
On a related note, I didn’t realize that something could go precipitously up? Apparently this is an accepted use of the word; I learn something new every day.
What Debs probably just forgot to mention is that her definition of “it didnt go up” is subject to an error rate of +/- 1%, or 1.32 million.
Oh yeah, and that pesky little fact that unemployment is only calculated on the number of active job seekers.
That twice as many people entered “non workforce” status as reached working age is quite damning.

She’s super kooky. I am flabbergasted every time she opens her pie-hole and NO ONE seems to tear her to pieces in the media. It’s frustrating.
yeah but if they swat her a few times for her outlandish lies she might stop doing it!
Anybody with half a brain isn’t going to be fooled, and anybody who’s a partisan hack will repeat what she says so we’ll know who they are!
Win Win!
