“Shoot First” Bill

Got the following story from Chris over at Citypages.com

All Republican Rep. Tony Cornish wants is for every Minnesotan to be able to shoot first and ask questions later if they find an intruder in their homes, and he’s getting damned testy about the top cops from Minnesota’s largest cities standing in his way.

At least they aren’t calling the law a “License to Kill”, given that it does NOTHING to change the definition of murder, and simply gives people some legal defense if they have to defend their life with deadly force.

And there’s a rub! If your life is in immediate danger and you need to use deadly force….when exactly are you GOING to have time to “ask questions”?

And the police have issues with this? Do they ask questions when a suspect pulls a weapon on a cop? At BEST they get commands like “Stop!” “Drop the Weapon”, etc. But never “Is that a Glock or is it a squirt gun?” or “Do you intend to kill me citizen?”

Then there’s this:

There is a LOT of missing information in his story. First up, Plain clothed officers serving warrants? First up badges are nonsense, so why can’t they have uniformed officers come to serve the warrant. Also were the cops actually knocking on the door to allow the resident to read the warrant first before they entered, or was this a no-knock warrant?

Furthermore who’s the shooter? Is it John Q Conceal carry defending his home, or is it Mookie the Crack dealer taking pot-shots with a stolen gun? (Guess what, the latter dude isn’t deterred by any further laws, and if you catch him he can go straight to jail with all the violations)

Still I’m glad this bill is doing well

A bill that would expand Minnesotans’ right to use deadly force in self-defense cleared its final committee in the state Senate Friday. The bill now heads for the full House and Senate, where GOP majorities are poised to pass it.

People who are defending their lives do not need to worry about legal punishments!
