The Bad Old Days

Wow, Tam unearths a relic of the Golden Age of Gun Control.

The Bush Administration today banned imports of semiautomatic assault rifles indefinitely, pending a review of whether the military-style weapons are being used for sporting purposes.

The step, announced by William J. Bennett, the director of national drug policy, is effective immediately and was taken after officials learned that requests this year from importers to bring in the weapons had already nearly tripled those for all of 1988.

“sporting purposes”! Because we know the 2nd Amendment was written about ducks and deer. I’m glad those days are over…tho sadly not over enough for somebody to reverse this shitty, and unconstitutional executive order.

Also Joe has a pile of quotes from the worst of the lot back in the day.

Thankfully we’re moving in the right direction, but we have a LOT of ground to cover.

Funny, I can’t recall the president being delegated that power in the Constitution. Maybe I am reading an obsolete version!

Unfortunately, we are still not that far removed – remember that there were plans to do exactly this with removable-magazine-fed shotguns. Said plans appear to have been placed on the back burner for the time being, but given the current administration, I take nothing for granted.
