Great little video from Dan Savage. Overall I LOVE his podcast, hate his politics, but as you can imagine we do see eye to eye on the sex and drugs issues.
Also I do appreciate his honesty, so many people (on both political sides) are willing to look the other way on a politicians horrible acts if its THEIR politician.
Still he talks about people on the wrong side of history such as the not-so-far-away time when it was OK to discriminate against black people simply because of their skin color. In some effect gun owners and gays are kinda the same way. Angry bigots want us to stop what we have no desire to stop. They want gays to quit being gays, and those who take control of their own personal defense to go back to being sheep. (And I would add that the two are not mutually exclusive…tho we do need more representation in the gay community. Seriously, armed gays don’t get bashed, and if some violent homophobes get shot in the process where’s the loss?)
It takes a LOT of hard work to end such wrong-minded behavior, and its something every cause must strive for.
I feel the same way about Savage. I’ll listen to anyone who hates bigotry as much as I do. I look forward to the day (yeah, sure) when sexual identity is no longer considered a liberal vs. conservative issue. And I understand his need to identify with liberalism. The left is *nominally* where the anti-bigotry power base is. I say nominally, because although liberals and conservatives are both bigoted to about the same degree, the official numbers are currently with the liberals. Whatever their other political principles are, LGBT’s need the support of powerful people, and they get far more support from powerful liberals than from powerful conservatives.
I will seriously consider becoming a registered Republican immediately after the majority of them tell the church to get the hell out of our government. And by “hell” I mean “FUCK!” Pardon my French.
I will listen to anyone that uses common sense. I really don’t care what you want to do and I’m not going to treat you any differently for what you do and what you are. However, don’t you DARE sit there and hypocritically call me names just because I don’t agree with you on something. Tolerance goes both ways.
