A Good Law!

Looks like Colorado is fielding a “Make My Day Law”

Colorado takes pride in its Western entrepreneurial spirit – and that extends to the belief of some lawmakers that business owners should be able to use deadly force against anyone who tries to take what’s theirs.

It’s an idea that conjures Clint Eastwood’s Dirty Harry, and its supporters have taken liberties with the hardboiled character’s famous line in naming their measure “Make My Day Better.”…”This bill gives business owners a license to kill when nothing is threatened other than property,” Democratic state Rep. Claire Levy said.

Well there’s a simple way to avoid getting shot for stealing stuff…DON’T STEAL STUFF! Not stealing stuff is EASY, I do it EVERY DAY! Of course reality is a tough mistress if you’re anti-freedom:

Holbert said the bill’s opponents raised concerns when the state passed a “Make My Day” law back in the ’80s.

“The opponents to that law were quite sure that we would have an increase in people just being shot on doorsteps, and that hasn’t been the case,” he said.

Holbert said, “This isn’t a blanket coverage to do bad things.”

Really, the “Blood in the streets” predictions is a load of crap? Who knew?

Well good luck Colorado. Any law that makes life worse for dangerous criminals, and better for people just going about their lawful business, is a good one!

Nothing other than property…..that is feeding the family. Does the Honorable Rep. Levy think that the business owner is selling “property” just for kicks?

Nothing other than property….that is keeping him or her in life saving medicines. Maybe business owners a self insured or pay cash for their medical care. Does the Honorable Rep. Levy think that without property business owners will have the resources to pay for medicine?

Nothing other than property…that is keeping his/her family sheltered and clothed. Maybe the Honorable Rep. Levy doesn’t have to work for a living but many people depend on that “property” to keep them safe from the elements.

I notice the Honorable Rep. Levy doesn’t make her address available to the criminals. Maybe she doesn’t want to know what she would do if someone tried to steal her ‘property’ eh.

Also does he think that people STEAL and ROB property by accident, or for GOOD reasons?

We’re talking about AMERICA here, where the homeless people have iPhones. You aren’t stealing to feed your family, you’re stealing because you’re a bad person.

Bad people go around ASKING to be shot. You’d be rude NOT to honor their requests!

They really stretch the bounds of reason when they claim this kind of theft is an accident. It’s a very deliberate act, you can’t do it accidentally. It’s not like driving away from the gas pump and you forgot to pay.

I really get incensed when they make the ‘attractive nuisance’* claim e.g. leaving something shiny in an unlocked car. ‘But they couldn’t help but steal it, it wasn’t secured enough!’ BS, have some self control.

*I know this generally just applies to children and dangerous situations, but I’ve heard many use this to blame the property owner for thefts

  2. I wonder if I can get the text of that bill sent to my state legislators…
