Amazing! I knew that North Korea is a Communist shithole as all Communist nations are…still I assumed that the prisoners in the camps were all caught doing SOMETHING!
He did NOTHING wrong but be born to prisoners who themselves might have done nothing at all. Amazing. More amazing is that there are people in this very nation who would do the same to us.
North Korea is like the gold standard for dictators to aspire too. In addition to the prison camps and slave labor, they have what is likely the most complete media blackout in the world. Horrible doesn’t even begin to describe it.
I can’t imagine how those who escape must feel when they learn that the world is completely different from what they were lead to believe, how different life outside that country is. Probably a technological shock too, most of the pictures I’ve seen look like they’ve been left behind in the ’50s for the most part.
Buy his book. Great read, good cause. Then loan the book to someone here who doesnt value their freedom over entitlement. Shin was also on 60 minutes last night with quite a lot more detail. Imagine escaping North Korea -into- China. With the armed situation between the Koreas that’s the only option for folks who want freedom in North Korea, walk into China. Google maps says it’s a 199 hour walk (~17 12 hour days) from Tonghua near the NKorea border to Beijing, IIRC he went to a city south of beijing to enter an embassy. Google (which can’t calculate direction from China into NKorea) says “Use caution – This route may be missing sidewalks or pedestrian paths.” 😉
The scary part…. the citizens are so brainwashed, they actually believe some of the propaganda, believing that they are the “true” Koreans, and that all other races, including their southern cousins, are inferior.
Hitler would be so proud of Kim Jong-un.
“More amazing is that there are people in this very nation who would do the same to us.”
Who is that?
There lots of rage-filled megalomaniacs out there that would have no issue with it if they and theirs were the ones in power.
I won’t say if anybody currently in power feels this way, because I haven’t seen any open warning signs…but dictatorships are not uncommon, and they certainly don’t “just happen”.
Not sure what the point of saying that was if you don’t have anyone in mind.
Simple, the biggest risk of horrible things happening is for people to think that it could never possibly happen to them.
Anything is possible. Doesn’t make it probable.
You made it sound like there are currently people in power with the desire and motivation to round up other Americans and put them in concentration camps.
Being aware of possibilities and remaining vigilant is one thing, scaremongering is another 🙂
Sorry you got scared. 😀
Hahaha you know what I’m saying.
I hate it when I accidentally reply to the post and not the specific comment thread. Twice now I have done this. I need to go back to Internet School.
I do! You caught me at being a tad hyperbolic and melodramatic (me? NEVER!)
So the least I can do is rib you back! 🙂
It was the perfect reply to what I said. I literally chuckled out loud at it.
