Feds Hate Competition

Now this is just Laughable!

An Indiana man suspected of smuggling assault riffles from the state to a Mexican drug cartel for illegal drugs have been indicted in federal court on multiple drug and firearm charges.

Hermion Torres, 35, Seymour, along with three co-conspirators, are charged with a total of seven counts of drug- and firearm-related offenses, U.S. Attorney Joseph Hogsett announced today. Torres, the suspected drug-trafficking leader is being charged with drug conspiracy, firearms trafficking conspiracy, possession of a firearm, and firearm straw purchase or soliciting other individuals to buy firearms on his behalf.

First up, you do this as a Government program, and its no big deal, and probably racist, but when a civilian does it, its a serious crime. Also it appears he didn’t do this in states that have the new Long-Gun reporting law. He did this away from the new law, yet somehow he’s going away for a LOOOONG time in the Federal Pokey. This is what gunnies mean by “We don’t need new laws, we just need to enforce existing laws!”

Most anti-gun laws fall under two categories: A) “Numbers Game” laws, where an arbitrary line is drawn in the sand. Note there is NEVER a discussion on WHY that number was chosen, or it was simply picked to exclude one particular boogie-man gun; or B) Redundant laws. The long gun reporting law was passed because Mexican criminals were allegedly buying lots of semi-auto rifles and smuggling them across the boarder. Actually it turns out that US Government officials were GIVING criminals guns and also giving them safe passage back into Mexico. Either way we’re talking about criminal acts here, and even without the law arrests can be made.

The antis like to say “If we pass one more law, this can be stopped!”, ironically they often do it in the wake of a crime that has nothing to do with their respected laws, like the recent Colorado shooting, where the killer bought his guns at local shops over several months time, each time passing a background check. Also while he allegedly had a 100 round drum magazine which is getting a lot of attention, photos from the crime scene show his M&P15 loaded with a standard 30-round magazine, and hospital and witness reports seem to point that he did most of his shooting with a Remington 870, which at most had an 8+1 round capacity. So calls against “High Capacity” magazines, and banning private sales would have been pointless in this case, also these laws are drafted to keep criminals from getting guns (a crime) or from committing mass murder (also a crime).

Is there any wonder why anti-gun people don’t want to ever have a debate over these issues?

I hate to be the detail nazi, but I believe it was a Remington 870. The 590 is a mossberg shotgun.

  2. Motor-T says:

The Mossberg is much better. You can put a bayonet on it!

Another “Feds Hate Competition” situation: the Reese family in New Mexico, who by all accounts have been rail-roaded into arrest, search-and-seizure, detention without parole, and are currently undergoing a nasty trial.

Also notable: ALL of their assets have been seized (so they have nothing with which to fund a defense), the pre-trial motions denied a collective defense (so each family member must be represented individually – READ: more attorneys’ fees), and thus far the prosecution has provided ZERO evidence of wrong-doing by the accused and is relying solely on the testimony of admitted drug-traffickers in return for lighter sentences or dropped charges.
