Joan Must Be Proud!

Looks like Kim Rhode from Minnesota is the first woman to win a gold in Olympic Skeet!

I wonder if Joan Peterson will arrange a parade on behalf of “Protect Minnesota”, or maybe her chapter of the Brady Campaign/MMM, praising her and her “Common Sense” gun usage?

All kidding aside, good work Ms. Rhode! Not only did she bring her Nation a Gold, and set a US Record, but she was 8 Birds ahead of the Chinese Silver Medalist!

I thought I read something by the anti-gunners about the US doing poorly in the shooting sports in the last Summer Games, but a quick search and I couldn’t find it…further everywhere I looked it seemed that the US Historically gets more medals in the shooting games than any other nation. Still could you IMAGINE the domination if they added the shooting sports that Americans REALLY love, like long-range benchrest, Hi-Power rifle, Action Pistol, Silhouette, or 3 Gun? (I’d mention Cowboy action, but I’m not even sure most nations would enter a participant in any of those strictly American sports)

Good Shooting!

I believe this is the fifth Olympics in a row that she has earned the gold medal

    • Weerd Beard says:

I believe you are correct! Tho previous medals were for trap, this is her first skeet medal.

    • Archer says:

Not quite. This is the fifth consecutive Olympics she has earned a medal, but they haven’t all been gold. Going by John Richardson’s post on the subject, she’s earned:
      – Gold in Atlanta, 1996 (she was 17 at the time)
      – Bronze in Sydney, 2000
      – Gold in Athens, 2004
      – Silver in Beijing, 2008
      – And now a Gold in London, 2012

Still, nothing to balk at! 5 medals in 5 straight Olympics. Here’s to a life-long career!

3Gun in the Olympics. What a total gas that would be. Can you imagine the shit filled underpant swelling that would take place if such an event occurred at a venue anywhere near London?

    • Weerd Beard says:

Can you imagine how much more popular the Olympics would be?

Not only would you get the gun geeks, and the olympics geeks…but people who just get a kick out of action movies would tune in to see people running and gunning with cool looking guns, rather than the odd martian ray guns they use in the Olympics today!

      • Pyrotek85 says:

If I’m not mistaken the original Olympic games featured battles and fighting, not strictly athletic events. I’d certainly tune in if they had shooting competitions like that.

  4. Archer says:

And the U.S. does not fully financially support their Olympic shooters. Some countries do (in China if you win a gold in anything, you and your family are set for life). Our shooters get corporate sponsorships from ammo manufacturers (which is fantastic, considering how much they must go through), but the .gov doesn’t help much.

Imagine if they did! What caliber of shooters could we send to the Olympics? (pun intended 😉 )
