A 6-year-old boy helping his father on a landscaping job during school vacation was killed Tuesday after getting pulled into a wood chipper, state police said.
Jeffrey Bourgeois was putting a branch in the chipper at about 8:45 a.m. when it yanked him into the machine after his father momentarily turned his back,
Man, 6 years old is a bit young to be working around such heavy machinery. This strikes me as some VERY bad judgement. That being said, I think we’ve done a few wood chipper death stories. They happen, probably a few every year. They’re big, they’re powerful, they’re dangerous, and tree branches are always risking to snag a glove or something and drag the worker in.
Like guns, they’re useful tools that serve an important purpose in society, and with that purpose comes some level of risk.
I think we need to all remember that.
