Happy Patriots’ Day

Today BOTH of my states celebrate Patriots’ Day, given that Maine was part of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. It celebrates the battle of Lexington and Concord. The battle started as the troops of the British crown came to seize the arms and munitions in Concord. The Militia didn’t let that happen, and many lost their lives that day.

Today on that same hallowed ground a law-abiding citizen could have their arms and munitions seized by the local police without a crime committed, a trial, or any due process…and I suspect that even today where guns are more-and-more on the mainstream here in Massachusetts, nobody would raise a finger or make a protest on this injustice.

In effect we get the day off so we can do our best to forget what we did that day and model ourselves as best we can after loyal subjects of the British Crown.

Still the weather is awesome, and they can’t send you to jail for what you’re thinking. So make sure you have a smile on your face today!

So it’s like delusional moral superiority day? “WE shot at the british, not like all those OTHER states, so take the day off of work.”

Use the holiday to go shooting, why doncha? 🙂

And Koresh Day, and McVeigh Day…

I hear you on the car shopping, my truck fell apart, literally, yesterday. *sigh*

So they took Patriot’s Day and made it a Monday Holiday? Since the Battles took place on 19 April, 1775, I’m guessing they also have to teach in School up there that the REAL meaning was a that a Group of Freedom-Loving Peasants and Workers attempted to throw off the Yoke of British Imperialism and bring forth the Era of the New Soviet Man! ; )

But what do you expect from a State that will arrest you if you are caught carrying a DOUBLE-EDGED A.G. Russel Sting 3 inch long bladed knife, but a 3 inch long SINGLE EDGE Buck is Okay.

No, you have your holidays wrong. It’s “Emancipation Day.” That’s why we have yet another day to get our taxes done.

Seriously, I would have thought someone as enlightened as you would know these things. I’m so disappointed.

Having grown up in MA, and moved to NY, I always have to remind myself that this monday isn’t a holiday here. I think I miss it.
