Just What I Need

While I’m waiting for my permit renewal I’m reading about all the places that are messing up the Renewal process.

Gun ownership advocates are pushing for a return to lifetime firearm licenses, saying the state’s 1998 get-tough gun control laws have created a bureaucratic nightmare that turns them into lawbreakers, while cash-strapped police departments say they are swamped.

“It’s a license that’s mandated by a state that cannot supply it,” said James Wallace, president of the Gun Owners’ Action League of Massachusetts, which is pushing a bill to speed up the process by eliminating renewals — and instead just yanking licenses from people when they violate the terms. “It’s taking so long that people are technically illegal, and they’re scared to complain, because they’re illegal.”

Gun culture 2.0 is in full swing, and people are buying guns like crazy, and no-longer are gunnies contained to the hinterlands where the deer and the antelope play, but in the urban areas, and these people are getting their carry permits.

This means more demand on the system designed to turn around each application in a short time. Now with volume up….they make you wait, and in the case of Massachusetts where its an OWNERSHIP permit, potentially break the law.

Permits are nonsense. Let people exercise their 2nd Amendment rights like any other…if they abuse them THEN punish them, not before.

What are you talking about Weerd? Don’thca know this is all an NRA conspiracy. There’s no permit problem!

If the police sit on your possesion card until they can bust you for having guns -well- then you shouldn’t have been someone that “everyone” knew was a scumbag right?

That’s why the police have these shiny powers, to punish those that displease their masters… er I mean punish those that escape such nicities as due process and being convicted of a crime.

In this case I don’t even think “May Issue” plays in at all. My Maine CCW is also up for renewal, and also has advised all applicants that there is a 3-Month backlog.

This is an issue with volume, and the various departments are unwilling to make the required change things to eliminate these problems.

And by “Eliminate Their Problems” I mean “Quit the permit shit, and pass constitutional carry”!

      • Jack says:

But if you had constitutional carry, well anyone could just strap a gun on their hip!

Which is so very different from the status quo.

        • Weerd Beard says:

          OH THE HORROR!!!

It would be like those lawless hellholes of Vermont, Alaska, Arizona, or Wyoming!

The list is even bigger if the gun isn’t concealed on said hip.

          • Jack says:

            For the law abiding sure.

But anyone could strap a gun and carry it concealed anywhere.

The only thing stopping that is personal choice and the few locations that have metal detectors and pat downs.
