Oops, and Anti-Gun Reaction

You gotta love the anti-rights activists, they know NOTHING about what they lobby for, but it doesn’t stop them from being LOUD in their ignorance:

Here’s the story:

WASHINGTON –

D.C. Police have confirmed to FOX 5 that they are investigating why an Army-style assault rifle was mistakenly mailed to a D.C. man in an online order.

Seth Horvitz says he ordered a flat-screen television from a third party through Amazon.com. He received a package that was left in the hallway outside of his Northeast D.C. apartment Tuesday, but instead of a television, he found a black semi-automatic rifle inside the box.

Unsure about what to do with the rifle, Horvitz says he contacted police about it Tuesday evening. Police confiscated the rifle when they came to his apartment….The shipping label on the box had Horvitz’s name and address, but the invoice inside the box indicated it should have been shipped to a gun shop in Pennsylvania.

Yeah, the NRA has totally supported this. The seller committed a crime here. Long-guns, unlike handguns CAN be sold across state lines, but all these sales need to be done in person at an FFL. For example, I’ve bought long guns in New Hampshire and Maine on a few occasions. I walked into the store, bought my guns, then took them to Massachusetts. Unique to Mass, I then submitted registration for those guns to the Mass Police *spit*.

An FFL cannot ship a gun directly to a private citizen, with the exception of guns being repaired or worked on by an FFL and returning the gun to the original owner. This is a colossal fuckup, as this dude ordered a TV and got a rifle. We’ve all gotten odd packages from warehouse screwups, but most of the time they aren’t CRIMINAL screwups.

Also good on the guy for contacting the police, bad on the antis for lying about it.

Gotta love that “assault rifle” chestnut. These clowns made up the term assault weapon and they can’t even use it right.

Also even they admit it was an accident. And this is already a criminal act. What’s their solution? Make it extra illegal to ship firearms to non FFLs?

Maybe ban the shipping of firearms to FFL’s entirely?

the invoice inside the box indicated it should have been shipped to a gun shop in Pennsylvania

Which indicates they intended to make a legal sale, right?

I can see levying a small fine in order to encourage taking more care, but this seems like a screw-up, not criminal intent.

Yeah I don’t know the law, still I’m amazed such a screw-up could happen. Maybe I could see getting a Taurus PT92 when you ordered a S&W629….but somehow getting a rifle confused with a TV? I dunno, seems like some really bad warehouse work!

This is the problem with the “there should be a law” bunch. Every time they get their panties in a wad, they cry “there should be a law”. They don’t ever stop crying long enough to realize that there already IS a law.

The days when we could order a pistol or a long gun through mail-order and have it delivered to our home is long gone and probably will never come again. Personally, I think that is sad. With the technology we have today, we should be able to figure out a way to verify that someone is who they say they are, run an automated NICS check, and allow them to order online without having to use an intermediary FFL. Don’t hold your breath. Aint gonna happen with all the cry babies. Shipping takes a couple of days, isn’t the antis always bawling that having waiting periods are SUCH a good idea?

You can mail order alcohol, but you have to be present, with an ID, and sober at the time of delivery. We trust UPS drivers to check ID and judge sobriety, so why not to check ID for firearms sales as well?

(BTW — I think you can mail order from the CMP.)

  4. The mention of the mail order roll back in 1986, because, I believe, that was when the ammo and component logging that was required in the GCA of ’68 was eliminated. CSGV knows exactly what they are doing. They are intentionally trying to make it sound that you can order guns through the mail.

    • Weerd Beard says:

Sure you can! I order guns through the mail…on my C&R FFL. You can order your black powder guns through the mail…because they legally aren’t guns….

      • Mail order bp guns to my home? C&R FFL?

Must be nice to live in this mythical land called America……

We lost our freedoms in NJ long long long ago, not even sure if NJ was ever freed from England…..

        • Weerd Beard says:

Oh Jesus, is it that bad in Dirty-Jersey? To commiserate, I can order a black-powder gun, but caps, balls, and powder require an FID. Yeah Thankfully Mass doesn’t play much with the C&R FFL….sadly some vendors are running scared. My last C&R order the company refused to ship the gun to my FFL…so I just had them ship it to Wally’s place, as I was going to see him anyway…and I had them throw in a case of ammo, why? Because FUCK YOU!
