A bullpup stock for a Marlin Model 60! Kinda cool, and it DOES take away one of the things I hate about bullpups, which is magazine changes. Reloads are identical in this gun, just in a shorter package.
Still with all the linkages needed to get the trigger pull ALLLLLLL the way back to the action, I wonder how the trigger pull is. Also you’re dealing with a straight blowback .22, and I dunno about Brad’s but I spend a LOT of time watching OTHER people behind this rifle as its a nice gun to teach the basics on…and there’s always a little red flash to be seen out the ejection port. Could be that my gun refuses to run well on subsonic ammo, but I don’t know if I’d like having that much powder and fire near my right eye. God forbid you have an out-of-battery event….
Still it makes a Model 60 go from a Fud-gun to a Tacti-cool gun that still complies with Massachusetts’ “assault weapon ban”, and it doesn’t appear to greatly hinder the operation thanks to the tube feed, and you can add a scope or other optic to it easily or just take advantage of the aperture sight (which would be an improvement over the cheap sheet-metal notch sights).
In the end I paid all of $60 for my rifle, and Amazon is asking over $100 for the stock. That makes as much sense as a football bat. Still its a neat product!
Myeh, I’ll stick with my Marlin the way she came–low-powered scope, wood furniture–beautiful, not dolled up.
Weerd,
I’m in your camp regarding the bullpup stock. I paid all of $75 for Miss Abigail . . . and cannot justify $130 for a bullpup, no matter how great the anti-fudd factor. I’m also struggling with the totally crap-tastic factory open sights. No matter what I try, I cannot get a good picture on the front sight. I looked into replacement sights, but even those were $69. So . . . I’m now considering scopes. I’ve set an absolute upper limit of $30 (including shipping) for the scope, which pretty well limits me to fixed power. I’ve read all the reviews and am considering a 4x Barska w/ 20mm objective lense. For a couple bucks more than the Barska, I can get Tasco, Bushnell or similar. Lastly, I don’t have any word on the sparks from the ejection port but then again I haven’t shot the rifle indoors or in low light.
Greg, what kind of scope is atop your Marlin? As for the look of the gun, I think blued steel with a nice simple, clean wood stock is dolled up.
Brad
I’m a glass luddite. I like irons a lot. The sights on my Glenfield are crappy, but I can put the pill where I want it to go if I do my part. I actually have an extra site laying around the armory that’s designed for .22s If you’re interested maybe when we both have some free time I’ll trade you. Say a brick of .22 HV for it? And then you can help me burn it up? 8)
I’m open to checking out an alternative to the factory irons or glass. Watch your email for details.
