A man with a machete was arrested Sunday while walking with a group of “Occupy Tampa” protesters near the Republican National Convention, police say…..When deputies caught up to him, police say he said told them he did not have to stop and that he was allowed to carry whatever he wanted. Weapons are prohibited in areas police have designated as “event zones.”
Police say Wilson of Tallahassee resisted arrest but was subdued and taken to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. He faces charges of carrying a prohibited item in the event zone and resisting arrest.
I’m SHOCKED! an “Occupy” Protestor carrying a deadly weapon! Also note how he resisted arrest and needed to be “subdued”. But why would people at the Republican convention want to carry a gun?
Yeah, carry your damn guns!
Weapons are prohibited, but firearms are not. Florida has preemption, and the local government has banned weapons from the event zone, but cannot ban firearms. The only area where firearms is prohibited are the areas where the Secret Service is in control. Those areas are controlled, and you must pass through Secret Service magnetometers to enter.
Actually, I sent you that so as “Open a Dialogue.” Not being Robb Allen (who would know more about this than me), but isn’t “Open Carry” damn near Illegal down in Fla.? I know we usually think of OCing Pistols (or Shotguns in the Library, right, Breda?), but a Machete can be considered a “Weapon” (when used Improperly). And I’m sure this “Peace Loving Occupier” was only carrying it for “Self Defense.”
But where in the State Law does it say that the Gooberment can ARBITRARILY declare an Area a “Weapon Free Zone?” I though that a Federal Law was passed after Katrina to PREVENT Weapon Confiscation in times of emergency. Didn’t the last Gooberner of NC get caught trying to confiscate Weapons after last years Hurricane? And I think she’s gonna be GONE after the next Election. And also, doesn’t Florida have that Law where no Local Political Hacks have the right to overthrow State Law? And don’t they Risk Jail time if they try to pass and enforce those Local Laws?
So there’s a Convention. And I know the Secret Service has a Job to do. But to say, “For the next week, WE Decree that your RKBA SHALL BE INFRINGED in these Areas.” Could you imagine what would happen if they told the NRA that “There shall be NO GUNS ALLOWED because some Political Hacks are coming to Beg for Your Votes?”
So I’m Confused. Help a Brother out, will you?
