So reading the CSGV presser I got to thinking about this part:

So first up, AR-15s aren’t the tools of “Cop Killers”, as most criminals are packing pistols because it is illegal for them to have ANY gun, so a concealable one is ideal, and second, most cops die in auto accidents, so the most common tool of Cop killers are cars. The “Insurrectionists” crap is just CSGV boilerplate, and frankly they’ve just destroyed the meaning of the word. To them anybody who owns a gun is an “Insurrectionists”.
Still there HAVE been a few mass shootings with AR-15s, tho frankly not enough to really say its a definitive first choice for any group of psychos.
When I heard there was no rifle used, and it was a shotgun, I immediately thought “Bet it was a Remington 870 or a Mossberg 500”. This isn’t because I had any inside information, I just know that the 870 and the 500 are the two more affordable and widely used shotguns in America. The AR-15 is quickly becoming ubiquitous in gun safes around the country, but for every $900 AR-15 there are two or three $300 Shotguns.
Which leads me to the omission of CSGV. The AR-15 is a very popular rifle for target shooters, for hunters, and for home defense. Its a great platform, easy to modify, accurate, and the ammo and magazines are relatively inexpensive. Further you can go off the .223/5.56 reservation to a bunch of calibers from the fairly pedestrian 6.8 Rem SPC, and the .300 BLK/Whisper, to some more creative chamberings.
The gun is an everyman (and woman) gun, and the Anti-rights people HATE that! First, they can’t divide and conquer like they did in ’94 buy pitting the bolt-action hunters against the black-rifle fans, because the dude in the deer stand probably has an AR on him…or at least he knows a guy who has great luck with one. Further they have the whole Heller v DC decision that states that “guns in common use” cannot be banned.
Still they do their best to paint AR-15 owners as a fringe group. The only problem with that is a wide majority of shooters own and shoot black rifles, and oddly they won’t be convinced that they’re the only one.
Still we shouldn’t depend on this, keep people informed and crush the opposition!
Yeah, if a very popular nd common gun is used in a crime… well that doesn’t mean much does it?
As Larry Correia said: “No. Weird would be having a mass shooting where the perp used a M1907 Roth-Steyr.”
Of course, there’s the whole “semiautomatic assault rifle” bit.
I’ve noticed that nobody is commenting on the 4-6 shot magazine on off the shelf 870s.
I don’t know my 870s very well, being a Mossberg 500 series man. What are the standard magazine options for the 870 Express. I assume he got an 18″ Barrel rather than the long fowling guns, and I know the standard 870 Mag holds 5, and I’ve read lots of posts on how to extend the magazine on the 870 with after market tube extenders, but from the factory what do they generally hold.
From a quick look, the Home Defense Express seems to hold 7 2.75″ shells.
Of course they won’t talk about it, because while the AWB said 5+ shots were “High Capacity” in shotguns, the average person will know what we do, that even with a shotshell, one shot is one shot, and 7-8 shots is still well less than the “Safe” 10 shots that they prattle on about with rifles and pistols.
