So I just finished “Lucky 13” which is a short story from the Terms of Enlistment Series by none-other than Marko “Munchkin Wrangler”/ “Major Caudill” Kloos. I must say I am DYING for his latest “Lines of Departure” to drop later next month.
I will be honest “Terms of Enlistment” felt a LOT to me like the great film “Full Metal Jacket”, not just in the obvious comparisons, but also like the film I deeply love the first half, and just enjoy the 2nd. This has nothing to do with the subject matter or the writing style, just the first half left a few details I noticed un-attended to as the story progressed.
Still “Measures of Absolution” dabbled in, but in no way resolved some of those details.
Yep, Marko, you got me hooked!
Give them a read if you’re into Sci-Fi and/or Military fiction. Tho honestly I LIKE both those genres but they aren’t what generally read, which is a ringing endorsement as well!
I really loved the first half of the book as well. I also did not much care for the second. It felt forced, and left to many unanswered questions from the first half of the book.
Still, I am looking forward to the next one.
Have you read Measures of Absolution?
I think it may have exactly what you’re yearning for.
Actually just bought and finished both short stories yesterday (they were a super quick read).
I enjoyed it, but it raised more questions than it answered! Why do you torture us so Marko!
Sweet Sweet torture! 🙂
