Nanny State: E-Cigs

Gotta love the nanny state!

I really like the point that they are sequestering people choosing the less harmful product of electronic cigarettes to the smoking sections outside where they are exposed to 2nd Hand Smoke. This is nothing more than an anti-smoking witch hunt, given that e-cigarettes don’t emit second hand smoke and are not known to be carcinogenic.

Still I don’t know if carte blanche should be given to electronic vapor users as the devices DO contain nicotine and other chemicals and what CAN be inhaled by people passing by is not fully understood.

Sadly with the devices being treated in this fashion, I wonder if it will ever be properly studied, or dealt with objectively. Certainly as they become more popular I’m seeing more and more people standing among the conventional smokers in the ever-more isolating smoking areas emitting their vapors and their LED light.

My favorite comment from an article about NYC banning e-cigs last week was something along the lines of “testing hasn’t proven that it isn’t harmful yet”. Which also means that it hasn’t been found to be harmful, so there’s no reason to ban it, other than fears that it will “make smoking glamorous” again, etc.
