“Gun Death” Old Port

Found this story from my old home town:

Police are investigating a stabbing in downtown Portland.

Authorities said a 22-year-old man was found early Friday morning on Wharf Street with multiple stab wounds.

Police said the man was admitted to the hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries.

The assault happened around 1:30 a.m. on Friday between Mark’s Place and Fore Street.

Maine is a pretty gun-friendly state. Its also right up the middle with carry. Open carry is permitless, concealed carry requires the NRA Basic Pistol or active-duty, recent discharge military papers, $60 and a month’s wait, and you can carry just about anywhere.

Still the Old Port is a big old cluster of bars on Portland’s waterfront, and its big problem is the drunks get stabby around 2am. I haven’t been drinking in the old port in ages, but back when I was the crappy police chief seemed to have heavy foot patrols until about sundown, then you would NEVER see the cops once the bars started getting crowded. When somebody would get stabbed, they’d try and pull the nearest bar’s liquor license…like that had ANYTHING to do with it.

Hey, but not a “Gun Death”, right? Must be because of all those strict laws….
