No word in the article if there was a protection order, not that those would have stopped this:
A jilted boyfriend stalked his teenage former girlfriend incessantly before stabbing her to death outside her apartment in a jealous rage, it was claimed today….Mr Peralta added: ‘As soon as we came downstairs, [Castillo] was just standing, facing her, watching her die. Since we recognized him, he started running. Everybody started chasing him.
‘He was just standing there, facing her. Everybody started chasing him. People with dogs let the dogs on him. He went to the park and disappeared.
He also attempted to kill himself with the knife, unfortunately he messed that up and is expected to recover.
I know people who have been in dangerous situations like this. I advise them to A) Get a protective order…not that they stop attacks like this, but it creates a paper trail in case something bad happens. B) Get a gun, and C) Get their carry permit.
In NYC where this happened those last two are near impossible. I hate to advocate breaking the law, but one must think about the value of their life in situations like this. Also this is why I’m against carry permits. There really isn’t any data I’ve seen that shows that the piece of paper or any of the requirements or training doing any good for public safety, but what it does is make people who realize they are in danger NOW have to wait for permission to arrive in the mail, which these days is often MONTHS.
Be safe out there people!
