Live By The Sword…

Die a Natural death at age 94.

Back when I dealt with more idiotic anti-gun people they would often quote the Bible (and I doubt any of them were Christian) “He who lives by the sword, dies by the sword”.

Of course that’s bull. People like Mikhail Kalashnikov, and Jeff Cooper, and any number of modern-day warriors simply go on to live a life like any other smug pacifist.

I’ll say, my Romanian AK-47 was the only gun I’ve ever owned that I simply didn’t want to own or shoot anymore. I sold it and bought an FAL that I’m totally in love with. I’m also not a fan of the Soviet Empire and all it stood for.

Still one must admire Mr. Kalashnikov for his rifle design, and all who copied it in various means, and all who have fought with it.

Also it is great that such a man lived to such a ripe age.

Oh the AK, as with every other weapon in neutral. Kalashnikov built the AK-47 to further the Soviet Empire. I don’t know if I can blame him, he was born in the Soviet Union and according to his wikipedia page had a passion for writing, but I’m sure he knew that the best way to feed his family was to join the military and use his skills as a weapons designer to climb the ranks. For him this was probably the easiest path to greatness, as defecting to a free nation was probably vastly harder, life-threatening, and quite possibly could have lead him to be just another Soviet engineer working menial jobs in the west, like many of the Com-Bloc fisherman I’ve rubbed elbows with.

Plus the AK rifles have been used for vastly more than extending the tentacles of totalitarianism and socialism.

Oh, and I happen to own TWO White-Army Mosin Nagants, one of which likely never left America where it was built.

Maybe I’m not interpreting that line the way you meant it, but I DO NOT have to admire all who have fought with rifles designed by Mr. Kalashnikov. Great gun though.
