Quote of the Day: Wade

Wonderful comment to the last “Images of the Antis” post:

If my neighbor’s child gets killed by a drunk driver, they don’t have the right to come to my house and steal my liquor or slash my tires just because they’re sad and angry, nor do they have the moral right to send government thugs to do the same.

Drunk driving is a great analogy for crimes with guns. Cars, alcohol, drinking, and driving (all separately, note the punctuation) are legal activities, and even combining some of those (like enjoying a beer while you clean your car, or tinker around in the garage) is perfectly acceptable. But being drunk and behind the wheel is a serious crime, and social taboo.

Also drunk driving has been cracked down on, and has become much less common than decades ago. The reason for this is simply law enforcement taking the crime more seriously than the past, by arresting drunks they catch driving, and serious punishment for the crime, when in the past the crime was frequently overlooked.

The same could be said about gun crime. Owning guns is NOT a problem, but criminals owning guns are a problem. Of course we don’t see police cracking down on the gangs and drug cartels in America because compared to hauling in drunks on the highway, it is a VASTLY more dangerous.

Still we have the anti-rights crusaders that are doing the comparison to slashing our tires, banning our cars, and making alcohol possession illegal because some monster decided that the taboo and crime of drunk driving wasn’t an issue.

It is simply foolish, but at the same time what in fact they do!

Anti-Freedom, not anti-gun!

They cannot focus on the problem, violence, it is what they can’t comprehend. The instead focus on the object as its tangible. In the end they create laws that are functionally unenforceable because they can’t yet put people in jail for what they
might be thinking. Unfortunately they put fewer in jail for what they have already done.

Why might that be… They drink and drive and use drugs. They believe laws stop criminal behavior. They believe with the fervent cherished belief that the object
causes the actions. They are irrational.
Fools they are, victims they likely may become, selfish in their beliefs.
    Defenders they will never be.
They can’t make the world safer for us, its not important as, we are not them.

  2. I’m totally stealing that to use on the Mom at my blog Demanding that we acquiesce to her and Bloomie’s demand that we ban guns for drunk drivers and “violent” misdemeanants.

    Weer’d,

Its interesting the people bashing Sean and the language they use. By their own hand they are what we are called by their side. Almost comical if it weren’t true. and right out there in print for all to see. Don’t these people realize that bile they write persists?
