Up Date on the LAPD Truck Shooting

Looks like the LAPD and the state of California are jerking around the two innocent women whom the LAPD attempted to execute because they thought their blue Toyota Tacoma was Chris Dorners Grey Nissan Titan.

Jonas said the women were first offered a used truck, then a non-four-wheel drive Ford to replace their Toyota four-wheel drive vehicle. The women also had to agree not to sell it for a year. His clients agreed to that truck, he said.

But then the dealership and LAPD officials said the truck would be considered a prize for tax purposes, Jonas said.

“Essentially, they’d have to pay taxes like they won it on a game show,” Jonas said.

First up, the cops didn’t shoot up their truck in error THEY ATTEMPTED TO MURDER THEM!!! I might accept a new truck if my truck was destroyed by error or bad luck by the police conducting police business, but the police aren’t a death squad, and shooting into a truck with no posed threat is not police SOP.

The taxes and stipulations just add insult to injury.

  1. I really don’t understand why they aren’t trying to pass attempted murder charges.

Or at least something civil like destruction of property.

Based on the amount of insane support Dorner got in all the news comments, I think a jury might give the women anything they asked for.

They should be facing charges, but I think right now they’re hiding behind qualified immunity.

The fact that qualified immunity is in play says that the LAPD 100% endorces their police being used as indiscriminate murder squads.

God, I love my state. If for no other reason than for the hilarious blogfodder it creates. Oh, and by “Love” I mean “fucking despise.”

Seriously, this is a dick move. A really big dig move. They shot up these women, and they should fucking pay for it, both monetarily, and the shooters should face charges.

But, what the hell. It just wouldn’t be California if somebody wasn’t getting buttfucked.

      • Lazy Bike Commuter says:

Since the first time I heard of qualified immunity, I have wanted to be rid of it.

Uh, those ladies need better Lawyers ASAP.

  3. Kristophr says:

The LAPD is trying to find some way to pay them off without admitting fault or getting lawyers involved. A “gift” requires the vehicle tax to be paid.

It ain’t going to work out the way they want.

No one involved is going to be able to get out of the constructive notice criteria for being personally sued. The LAPD’s own rule books state that this behavior is not allowed. Not even LAPD can claim that swiss-cheesing a person’s truck is just an innocent mistake.

  4. Kristophr says:

I like the radio person’s suggestion.

Never sell the truck. Fix it up to the point of drivability, and just drive it daily.

If anyone asks, tell them that yes, the LAPD put a hundred rounds in it because they were a bunch of panicking retards.

  5. Bob S. says:

“Gift Taxes” I believe run at the 36% level for federal taxes and I’m sure Cali would tack on a couple of points so this isn’t some small matter. They would end up having to pay 10+ grand for the privilege of being shot at !

It is sad that our country has slipped so badly to this point; that people can’t admit they were wrong and correct it as best as they can. The politicians need to own up to the issue and do it now. Would try to shame them by naming them publicly but I’ve found most politicians have no shame.
