All Kidding Aside, It Would Work!

I really think lethal injection is preferred because it is clean and LOOKS effective.

Personally i think long-drop hanging is the best means for executing prisoners with dignity.

Measured hanging, not long drop. Done correctly, it breaks the neck and leaves the head attached. You could do the math on an iPhone and get it right.

The problem is what is effective is messy. And the anti-death penalty people have effectively ruled that out. So instead we have a cocktail of questionable drugs that may or may not be that effective.

What really pisses me off is that hundreds of thousands of people have surgery each day, and somehow they manage to be anesthetized properly and these people have every known disease, deformity, and weight control issues. Somehow, prisoners happen to always have some cavernous hemangioma that would make their deaths a little too painful and viola! They get off scott free.

Now, as I always have to say – I have no moral qualms with the death penalty. I do not, however, believe our gov’t and the judicial system functions properly to mete out such a punishment.

Correct about the measured drop, that’s what I’ve been meaning with the “long drop” terminology.

Also if we’re going to give somebody the needle, why do we need this complext Rube Goldberg machine? Just do what we do with people suffering in hospice, give them morphine until they stop breathing. Painless, humane, and cheap. Also it’s virtually impossible to fuck up like the recent execution. If you don’t give enough they will simply keep living, if you give too much…well there’s no such thing. Only downsides I see to a morphine titration is the side effect of vomiting with some people, and it would take a bit longer than the current Rube Goldberg death machine.

I agree that our justice system is flawed, but that’s a reason to FIX the flaws, not eliminate the one form of punishment that is most effective at removing dangerous people from society, and poses less risk to jailers and other prisoners.

Inject the condemned with enough morphene, and it doesn’t matter what method you use, with respect to staying humane. Hanging works fine.

    Guillotine?
    Massive dose of Heroin? Barbituates?
How about a massive OD of the drug(s) of their choice?
    Firing Squad?
How about an execution chair with 8 large bore rifles/shotguns aimed at the criminals heart electrically hooked up to 12 triggers (four dummy triggers for salving consciences)? Noisy, messy, but even if half misfire, the job gets done quickly and relatively painlessly. It cannot be worse than these lethal injection machines.

Personally, I think Crucification and Impalement are fitting punishments for some heinous crimes. But they are definitely cruel and not Constitutional.

  4. It isn’t this complicated. We put tens of thousands of dogs to sleep every day in this country. The chemicals are cheap, easy to use and effective.

If you feel the need to get all sciency, the medical profession puts people to sleep thousands of times a day for surgery. Most people wake up, some don’t. Anesthesiologists take special care to monitor the dose so that most people wake up. They could easily double the dose and make sure the person does not wake up. Then they could bill the prisoner’s medical insurance for the procedure.
