Crap!

You gotta love the blissful ignorance of the Antis:

First up you have his silly hunting story. This shows he has NO knowledge of how this system works. If a hunter shoots a bird or a deer the microstamp will be on the spent shell which is easily recovered. The bullet in the animal can be recovered, but will be indistinguishable from any other bullets as far as microstamping is done.

Also I love the “Police Support this”….so why are they exempted from the law? We talked about this before, if this law made us safer, then Police would be for this in their sidearms and patrol rifles and shotguns. It would make it easy for them to prove when they were fired upon, and who fired which shots.

Police are NOT for this law, they are AGAINST this law, hence why they WANT that exemption!

Further this law does NOTHING, as the microstamping doesn’t work. Even in a perfect scenario the technology frequently produces illegible or ambiguous marks, and further the technology can be quickly removed with household tools and zero skill, while still allowing the weapon to be used for crime. Yes, S&W and Ruger WANT to be in the California market, hence why they produce so many guns that comply with those regulations. I’ll also note that Ruger and S&W as well as several other companies work very hard to make their guns legal in Massachusetts.

Still complying with this stupidity is opening a door they don’t want to pass through. They have drawn a line in the sand. Yes it will cost them MILLIONS, but it will cost them Millions to save them BILLIONS in the future.

Not to downplay S&W’s stance on California – it’s a bold step to stop submitting new pistols to the CA-DOJ for approval and let some existing models “fall off” – but it’s been pointed out that they may only be pulling out of the civilian market in California.

Rephrase: The company has not made any public indication whether they’ll cease selling or servicing exempted police pistols.

Considering they’ve already had a flap of being accused of “sleeping with the enemy” which seriously hurt their bottom line, you’d think they’d take a stronger stance on this one. Currently, a M&P in 9mm is on my personal “short list,” but there are enough options on the market that wiping off S&W products for political reasons will affect them more than it affects me.

Besides which, every CA politician listens to the police unions. To effect meaningful change, you must have the unions on your side, and the union leadership will never side with private gun owners until they are all subject to the same laws as private gun owners. S&W now has the power and ability to help force that issue, but will they?

Their customers – current and potential – are watching, and the wrong answer could conceivably cost them millions in the short term AND cost them billions more in the long term.

Heh……comments are still up at the youtube video. Apparently the “Young Turks” haven’t learned about “Reasoned Discourse.”
