Obama said, “Keep in mind most of these laws are not preventing the the overwelimgly majority of folks who don’t vote from voting. Most people do have and ID. Most people do have a drivers license. Most people can get to the polls.”
“But the bottom line is, if less then half of our folks vote, these laws aren’t preventing the other half from not voting,” he added.
Look if you don’t have a state-issued photo ID you really can’t LIVE in this country. I understand not everybody drives. But most adults in this nation DO drive. So that’s a small amount of people. Still take that small amount of people and weed out anybody who doesn’t buy alcohol, doesn’t buy tobacco products, doesn’t travel by either plane, train, or bus, NEVER rents a hotel room, doesn’t have a job, isn’t on any public assistance. The list goes on.
I mean I NEVER leave my house without my driver’s license and my gun permit. I may not show them every day, but I’d be surprised if more than a month goes by before somebody needs to see it. Hell in some states you might get ARRESTED for simply being out in public without positive ID (now those laws are terrible, but they’re on the books already).
If there are people who have no positive ID whatsoever it is so small as to be statistically insignificant, and that person is likely deeply dependent on others with photo ID to live their lives in a normal fashion.
The Idea that voter ID laws are somehow “Voter Suppression” or “Oppression” of any sort is foolish.
