Quote of the Day: Timothy Bal

This is a very interesting letter to the Editor:

I propose that people like me who deplore gun violence take our country back from the gun lovers. We can do that by using economic sanctions against states that allow the gun lobby to write the laws. How? By never moving to these states, by moving out of these states and by never vacationing in these states.

Ahh that lovely false dichotomy! As Jack Noted Anti-Rights people make no intention of understanding WHY we have a different viewpoint. They have THEIR viewpoint, and assume they’re right, and make-up whatever they don’t like for the other side’s viewpoint.

Of course if you’re a gun owner and are against further restrictions, you KNOW the truth. We own guns BECAUSE we want America to be safer. Now gun culture 1.0 was all about hunting and target shooting, and really they didn’t care about safety. Hell those sports were FAR more dangerous. Hunting accidents and other unintentional accidents with firearms are on the decline, because gun culture 2.0 REALLY cares about safety, both at the range, in the field, and on our streets, and in our homes.

We’re succeeding! The other side would LOVE for our argument for relaxed regulation on firearms to be just so we can get our beloved guns, and dead bodies be damned…but it isn’t. If guns made me MORE at risk of dying or members of my home more at risk of dying I wouldn’t have any. Period! I might still have the right to do that, but I simply wouldn’t exercise it.

It isn’t true, so I have guns, and I carry them wherever I can.

Still the rabbit hole goes deeper!

The gun lobby uses money to gets its way. It is time for decent people to use their money to defeat the gun lobby. We can do that one state at a time. If we can get most states to regulate guns vigorously, we will be able to regulate guns at the national level.

First up, I find it amusing he tells anti-rights people to not move to pro-rights states or vacation there, meanwhile people are vacating anti-rights states, and certainly gun owners do a lot to avoid anti-gun places. Heck, I buy my stamps at the drug store rather than the post office because I can carry my gun there, and not in that unprotected Federal Building.

Also, he claims that the gun lobby uses money to get its way. If that’s true, you have nothing to worry about!

No, we win because we have numbers. The facts that you choose to ignore help bolster those numbers. Money helps, but even the money is because of numbers. Thousands of people donating a few dollars goes a lot further than one billionaire with a hobby horse.

Michael Bloomberg is one vote. Yes his money helps make him a household name, vs. John Q Gun Owner, but the THOUSANDS of lawful gun owners who oppose these dangerous laws do far more than a single dollar of advertising, and lobbying.

You lose because you don’t understand. Further you don’t WANT to understand.

  1. Braden Lynch says:

He’s got it all wrong. Our Second Amendment rights extend across all of America. The fact that some states do damage to it does not make them right or their assinine laws Constitutional.

So, I propose he renounce his citizenship and go to the UK or some other gun-hating nation. Get the hell out of my country! And yes, it is MY COUNTRY when you ignore the Constitution, the foundation of our laws and governance.

Let’s parse his plan of action shall we?

He wants people to evacuate icky gun states and boycott them for vacation and business.

Then he wants those same “decent people to use their money “… on other states.

Step 1: If a state is too pro-gun flee!

Step 2: Once secure in your anti-gun state send money back to the state you just left!

His plan of action literally advocates surrendering grassroots political activists under the presumption that cutting checks to national top-down movements is more important than local activism, voting, *and* cutting checks
