UK Knife Philosophies Come to America

Don’t think the anti-gun people are really anti-gun. They are anti-freedom, and if they made all guns vanish from America they wouldn’t even slow down:

In this era of search-happy security, carrying a knife isn’t just an anachronism; it’s a terrible idea. So let’s retire the term pocketknife, along with the practice it implies. Instead, meet the stay-at-home knife, an all-purpose blade for every place but your trousers.

Oh the idiocy! I feel positively naked without a good knife in my pocket. It’s one of those tools that once you figure out how often you might need one every day, you never want to be without one.

Also given that carrying a gun is NOT something you can do everywhere, it also can be a force multiplier that might save your life.

To declare that dropping a knife in your pocket as a “Terrible Idea” is to go against humanity. We are tool users, and a knife is one of those basic tools you shouldn’t be without. Still in more “Civilized” places even a simple Swiss-army knife is considered a “Deadly Weapon” and will get you thrown in prison for stepping out your door with one on you. I once chatted with a subject of Australia who collected Swiss-Army knives. He kept them at home, and didn’t seem to see the irony of that. Yep a utility knife like the Swiss-Army knives kept only in the home is an exercise in stupidity. Hey you have a tiny blade, a crappy screwdriver, a cork screw, and some hard-to-use scissors….right next to your full-size knife, corkscrew, screwdriver set, power drill, and full-size shears!

Don’t think that if you aren’t a gun owner the people out there stripping my rights away won’t stop when they have my tools confiscated!

Hell, even in places like Massachusetts they’re calling for national gun control because even tho people in Mass are heavily restricted people in other states aren’t and people MIGHT choose to break the laws and bring guns across state lines. Do you think the people who propose this brand of “Logic” will simply say that you can’t carry a knife outside your home, but you can have one INSIDE your home? You might be tempted to BREAK THE LAW! The only solution is MORE LAWS!

Well, it is a Bloomberg site, so I’m not surprised.

I’ll give them an “E” for consistency, though…

In my family (at least for the guys) being given a pocketknife (traditionally a Case) is a major rite of passage into manhood. No one is ever caught without one after that.

I have a funny story involving my dad, Washington, D.C., a pocketknife, and a flowerpot…but that’s for another time.

And note that the motivation of the writer is “Well there’s intrusive security everywhere, so we all might as well bend over and accept it.”

Oh! And make your knife decorative! Because weapons are never given any sort of embellishment or adornment!

Good thing knives are so hard to make!

I carry Mercator and Douk-douk, mostly, sometimes my Opinels, SAK, or Case. I use them daily to cut rope, twine, envelopes, packages, zip ties, etc. Like firearms, they’re just tools. No “hypnotizing rays” emanate from them compelling me to do unlawful stuff. Demonize this:)

Weer’d’s right, too. It’s about control. The kind of sick-puppy political tickle that some folks get by finding some angle to lord it over other people. How do you spell political castrati?

I remember reading a story about how a group of three people were “miraculously” able to escape their elevator in the WTC on 9/11. One of them actually had a Leatherman tool (in NYC no less) and they used that to cut through the drywall wall to escape after they opened the elevator doors. The reporter sounded dumb-founded that someone would have a basic tool like that.

That article was a clickbait advertisement for knives.

I mean, what better way to get knife enthusiasts to visit than threaten them?

Look at their last line. Clickbait.
I added the (DOT). Why give them even more traffic?

    “Get Some Edge”
“To see these knives — and countless other mind-bending pieces — make a date at Mastersmiths, an appointment-only New York showroom, or visit them online at beautifulblades(DOT)com.”

Yeah, I understand, but they’re singing a song I talk a lot about here, so it was worth the link.

I think my readers are smart enough to avoid click bait.

I personally clicked on the CRKT link because I like their stuff and wanted to view the knife….the link was broken.

I honestly think that knife bans are more a reason for revolution than gun bans.
