I also own a Colt 1991 A1 and I concur that it’s a great gun. I bought it new in, I think, ’96 for about $500. Even at that time the going price for the Colt 1911 was pushing $1000.
Save for changing the grips, I’ve kept it stock… now it’s WELL broken in! If you don’t limp wrist it, it cycles flawlessly. Fun to shoot and I would trust my life to it.
